Robert Downey Jr. usually plays these cocky overly self confident characters. While the Hobey character, played by Will Ferrell, is the traditional neurotic Woody Allen character who feels awkward and lacking in self confidence.

Robert Downey Jr. is an exceptionally good actor so he probably could play any role. But if you're referring to the Hobey character, it's just not the type role I'm accustomed to seeing him in.

I think casting Will Ferrell for this role was an inspired bit of casting. Frankly, Woody Allen is getting a bit too old to play the roles he writes for himself. And while I've never thought of Will as that great an actor, he is quite good at playing these characters who are socially clumsy.

Would have been much better. They are both terrific actors. And even though I quite liked Radha Michelle here, I have always felt that Will Farrel is terrible in everything he does.

Woody Allen is the only genius whose work I have seen and understood.

Anyone but Radha but yeah I could see both actors in this--- but Downy Jr. as Ellis--- not anyone else.
