Book recommendations anyone?

OK, I see there's not much going on on this board and I don't even know the movie. However, this is the only board here related, in a way, to James Robert Baker, so I'll give it a try.

I haven't read Tesosterone yet, but the late JRB is responsible for two of my very favorite books: Boy Wonder and Fuel-Injected Dreams. AFAIK these are his only novels that are not specifically gay-themed, but still I think that some of his 'gay novels' may also be interesting for me if the general writing style he employed in BW and F-ID is similar. But I'm also looking for other authors' books in a similar vein, which is not that easy. Baker had a very cool, unique and vivid style, reading his books actually feels like watching a movie - probably a sleazy low budget movie, but as entertaining as it gets. They're full of hillarious situations and characters and countless (pop)cultural references, especially from the world of movies and music (BW is centered around a film producer, F-ID around a radio DJ and a music producer).
In my search for similar books, I recently started to check out authors who are mentioned on my editions of JRB novels. On the cover of F-ID it says: "The best contemporary novel since Less Than Zero." So I bought LTZ and read it, but only because it was so short. Otherwise I would have probably stopped after a 100 pages or so, because it was really boring. On the back cover of BW it says something like: "...anyone who liked the works of Michael Chabon or Donna Tartt will quickly take to Baker's sizzling style." So I bought me The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, which is Chabon's much-praised breakthrough novel. I've read 100+ pages of the book and gave up. It bored me and I didn't even like his writing style. Currently I'm reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. The beginning was promising, I only hope it won't get too philosophical, I'd hate that. Still I don't see any similarites to my favorite works of JRB. Is anyone here familiar with either Boy Wonder or Fuel-Injected Dreams and can recommend me something that will actually live up to my expectations? Or even if you don't know JRB but something that might be in the same vein, as far as you can tell from my description, I would really appreciate any recommendations.
