SUGGESTIONS FOR MORE DARK MOVIES

I really liked this movie...does anyone have any suggestions for other dark movies like this?

Check out just about any film made by Larry Clark - 'Kids', 'Bully', 'Ken Park'
, and 'Wassup Rockers' - all but 'Ken Park' should be easily available for rental/purchase - and ALL come highly recommended since 'State's Evidence' reminded this viewer immediately of Larry Clark. 'Ken Park'? As far as I know is unavailable here in the US - a very potent blast not suitable for American viewers I guess. Michael Cuesta is another filmmaker to look for - 'L.I.E.' (look for the uncut version) and '12 And Holding'. I hope I was of some help.

Hey Melchizedeknm - another film I forgot to mention - a definate must see - titled 'Lilya 4-Ever' - a real stunner that WILL leave you emotionally drained - I have seen this movie 4-5 times and still, it leaves me totally devestated and a bit puzzled - is the ending happy or sad. If you are here in the US, I'm not sure about availabilty - possibly through NetFlix. 'Lilya' comes HIGHLY recommended. Seek it out immediately!!!! CHEERS!

I can't believe anyone would compare this *beep* movie to Kids or Bully.
All three movies suck, but really...I don't see how they are alike at all.

reply

we never said they were alike, I just wanted other dark movies to watch. Tho there are some basic similarities between the 3

Here are some other films that tackle dark subject matter voyeuristically and somewhat realistically:

Punishment Park
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067633/

I Stand Alone
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157016/

Funny Games
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119167/

Cannibal Holocaust

For a much better film (than States Evidence) that also explores suicide, check out:

The Bridge

A lot of strange things happen in this world. Things you don't know about in Grand Rapids.

Well, Donnie Darko has the same tone mostly, but I would really reccommend "A Clockwork Orange", directed by Stanley Kubrick.

Mean Creek and Kidulthood are both very good ones too

Thank you sooo much for suggesting "The bridge"

"I hate myself, and want to die."

Mysterious Skin is disturbing.

" Family portraits: a trilogy of america" particularly the first story 'cutting moments' is very dark and disturbing/realistically gory.

There are a couple of very good one's you could try: "Bang, Bang, You're Dead" (2002) and "Elephant" (2003).
