What was the point!?!?!?

I found myself intrigued then disappointing by this movie. As one post stated, they appear as people with Alzheimers. Even the "Accidents" or deliberate sabotage at the end, are typical of an Alheimer's patient who accidently sets a kitchen on fire. But otherwise, what is the point to this movie?

I'm very frustrated with a few movies I've seen recently that do little to support the story they are presenting with no other explanation then "It is up for you to interpret". I'm not listening to a song, nor reading a poem here. Nor am I paying for someones pet project. I think as artistically conservative as this may sound, if you are going to put something out there for the public, please at least be somewhat respectful in what you deliver.

The ending or lack there of, ruined what I thought could have been a good film.

i couldn't agree more. it's the most annoying film-making trend around at the moment. It's completely arrogant and disrespectful to the audience. not to mention, leaving things 'open to interpretation' is just lazy film-making. whenever i see a film without an ending i assume that the creators just didn't know how to write one, not that they are artistic geniuses, which is what they seem to want us to think.

They are memories. The story is about people letting go.

By popping them back up in your life?

Let me start by saying that it's been a while since I've seen this film.

But yes, memories/thoughts of loved ones pop back into people's lives. Sometimes they haunt us. Sometimes we obsess over them.
At the end of the movie (from what I remember), some were laid to rest on their graves where they can peacefully rest and be remembered how they were when they were alive. Some went down underground, where I'll assume they'll come back once again to interrupt people's lives.
It's metaphorical.
What do you think?

I don't understand you, I found this film very respectful to audiences. And I think especially people who miss their beloved and wish they would come back, maybe even for a while, will take this to heart. Sure there must be many.

Years ago, I wrote a review about Les Revenants on IMDB, comparing it with one of the Ray Bradbury stories from The Martian Chronicles. Space travellers who miss the people on earth (dead mother and father, deceased fiancée) came to Mars and got their memories come to life.
