zombie movies, and this movie

when i saw this in the store it said a lot about being a zombie movie, which in some aspects it is, being dead people coming to life, but maybe a reason to why people don't like it so much is because a certain disappointment.
this movie should not be categorized under a zombie movie, but perhaps ghost movie. I say ghost because the dead characters had an ghostly attitude rather than zombie like. coming back to "closure unfinished issues" and to help their families acknowledge this issues and also closure them.

that was i believe their task, at least is what makes sense to me after watching this movie, I liked the movie, since it showed a different dead alive kind of movie. but i don't think it's a great movie also.

but i definitely would recommend it.

Since Romero's brilliant Night Of The Living Dead, the perception of zombie movies has drastically shifted. Just watch I Walked With A Zombie. The undead in that movie are lethargic, non-cannibalistic and mindless, very close to the Haitian definition of a zombie. After NOTLD things changed rapidly and the wave of Italian zombie films turned the genre into a splatter fest!
Remember that in all true zombie films since Romero, the word zombie is a taboo (the undead are no zombies from the voodoo tradition). Consider the dead in Les Revenants as ghostly reflections from those they were in life and not a brain munching monsters.

Les Revenants is exactly what it is, revenants. They are not a zombie, but not exactly a ghost. But I don't think people would know what revenants are. Wraith with Charlie Sheen is another example of a revenant.

I agree with you, Gomez. This is marketed as a zombie film (as evidenced by the DVD cover), but will disappoint horror fans. On the other hand, if my memory serves, it is a thoughtful film about loss, grief, etc.

I actually love this movie

People and marketing love to lump anything they can into a "zombie" film in order to ride the wave of fandom that has been going for the past 10-15 years. 28 Later, movies are not zombie movies, but are always labeled as one in broad categories.

Cell by Stephen King is coming out soon (a fantastic book to read) and I have heard people refer to the "phoners" in the book as zombies as well. Being a favorite, I really hope that is not what they have done with the script of that movie.

I really like this movie, and then the following series. Not a fan of of subtitles, but was able to watch the dubbed versions. It's just my preference. Don't like reading my movies and shows. I think that is why I liked the A&E version of it that ran for most of a season.

I did think it was explained in the movie and shows alike that these were not zombies, but evil that came back in the form of dead loved ones. I can see why people are confused when getting it if they know nothing about the movie since it is pretty much miscategorized.
