Cyon's L-Sequence of her DNA matches with the one of Cyper (the cyborg) and Dr. Giro, not the whole DNA. Dr. Giro transfered his consciousness into Cyper. Now that Cyper's body is expiring, he needs Cyon's body...
The reason why Dr. Giro aka Cyper wants R to find Cyon is not because he can or wants to save Ria with the help of Cyon's body. Cyper just needs the body of Cyon because his body is expiring soon. So he played tricks on R. Well, something like that :D
To be honest, I didn't completely get it at the first time either. Anyway, i've seen it like 20 times so far heheh

Yep, that's it. The thing that stretched credulity a bit was that, of all the people in the city, the only compatible one just happened to be the pretty little waif who (a) fancied the hero from afar, and (b) whose father just happened to have fallen in love with a cyborg. Still, though, a beautiful and, for the most part, fairly intelligent film. I didn't so much see it as derivative of BladeRunner, more as another story set in the BR world.

Crikey, you had to sit through this piece of piddle movie 20 times? I could hardly watch it once. It's shockingly bad. Yes, the acting is decent, and the direction is good. But come on, a wafer thin storyline in a movie that tries to be story-heavy? Don't be daft. This film is just a mish-mash of several hollywood movies thrown together which results in a film that isn't anywhere near as good as the films it borrows from. I find it astounding that there is anyone on God's green Earth who actually has some sort of praise or would want to subject themselves to viewing it more than once.

Well, that's my opinion anyway. Feel free to disagree.

Imagine all those who complain upon movies and plots, making their own movie. "Lord of the Whiners : Fellowship of the Whiners". Be real, this is a good made movie, might not be your genre or type of movie, but not BADLY executed. The story may be thin at points, but has a certain morale. If my english skills were good enough I'd be able to describe more precisely what I mean with the fact that this movie (and Bladerunner) tends to answer the phrases : "Don't play with lives" "Life always finds a way" "Its dangerous playing god" and etc.

The only thing that truly bothered me in Natural City was the, for the most part, crappy score, specially in the more dramatic scenes. All that asian-pop crap is unsufferable (Well, all pop is, anyway)! and the end credits song is enough to make one want to slit the wrists. Too bad the filmmakers of Natural City didn't get a great score like other korean movies like A Tale Of Two Sisters or Oldboy. A bad score always hurts a movie, even if it's good.

agreed - the natural comparison is with Blade Runner and that had one of the best soundtracks ever

Kids, I'm about to lay on the icing here.
The missed piece of the puzzle:

The girl at the beginning, who says she can't understand how her father could love a cyborg, _IS_ Cyon - Cyon when she was younger and planting her garden.
She's Giro's duaghter and he's now "dead". And cremated. And he too loved a cyborg. The burial was his last wish, which Cyon carries out.
Now he's in Cyper and he's going to live on if he can find his (non-citizen and therefore harder to find) child _whose DNA will be compatible, guaranteed_. So he uses R.
Note at the end that Cyon lays a flower on Ria's 'grave'.She then lays a second flower - on the grave she made before for her father and his cyborg lover's chip.
Because... now she understands.

And that's that.

PS - "Cyon" was supposed to be "Zion".

Thanx Tank Grrl. That really was the "missing piece".

Does it mean Giro's cyborg lover is "Strawberry" or the female combat cyborg he revived?

sorry, but that's nonsense,tank_grrl. You state that Giro has been "cremated" (by which you are refering to the opening scene). But Giro (or at least his body if you will) is present throughout the movie afterwards.

reply

What we saw as Giro was actually an illegal cyborg. At least, that's what I got from the scene where he was shot.
