dialoge

well i hated this movie. i dont know wether it was the dialoge in the script. because i was very poorly written or the fact that it was translated in english and the mouthing was all off.

I think it was the English dubbing. I saw it at the Milwaukee Film Fest in German w/ English subtitles prior to learning German, and had no problems with the Dialouge. I am actually gonna watch it again tonight, it'll be interesting now that I know how to speak German pretty well.

i think i would watch this again in german. the dubbing was so bad it was worse than the cheapest cartoons. i watch alot of foreign stuff and have found that dubbing is really subpar.
i agree the translator should be shot, or mangled. it was painful.

Dubbing is annoying. I can never take a dubbed movie seriously.
I'd watch it back with subtitles & give it a second chance.

The dubbed version automatically plays on the region 2 DVD. I went to switch the English audio track off but found that the dodgy voices added to the comedy aspect so left it on.

Before the story picked up in modern-day Germany (Deutschland--heute) I had already turned off the English track and turned on the subtitles, and it made for a much better viewing experience...when I picked it from Netflix, I didn't even realize it was a foreign movie, and if I had known I likely wouldn't have ordered it...it was cool hearing all the German dialogue and the random phrases that I would recognize from taking German in high school...

You americans are just not used to dubbed movies, thats simple. I got the movie in french(my language) and the dialogue where as fine as any other movie i watch, but i always watch movie in french. I sometimes see them in english to compare when i really like the movie to watch it 2-3 times or more, but its french first.

And to be honest i tend to think French dubbed version sound better than original ones in term of sonor effect... They always do a pretty good job having lips match with voice and all, its rare that i notice he didn't said what he said in french... Its just that dubbed movie use a clearer sonor track in a way, its louder and all...

But again i supose it depend on how you start watching it if your speak multiple language. For exemple i could never watch Buffy in english, cause i started in french for 5 seasons before getting the dvds, i watched some episodes in english and hated Sarah Michelle Gellar original voice, the french voice was so much better and match so much more her expression...

But on the other end i started watching supernatural in english, because i didn't want to wait for the french version, and now i could not watch it in french, its just not right, as im use to Dean(mostly him, but Sam too) expression in the original version. I saw Jensen Ackles in Dark Angel, Smallville, so im use to his french voice, but for Dean, it got to be original.

So well yeah it depend on how you watch it i supose...

I must agree. The language thing is not easy. In America, the country of infinite numbers of movies, people can hate a film where someone speaks with Aussie or Canadian or New Zealand accent. Sometimes they even blame foreign actors for their accent.
I have seen 'Farscape' partially German dubbed and partially in the original, and I love the original because of their strange Australian accent, but I can't follow them without english subtitles. 'Enterprise' series (2003) is in German nearly unbearable, if you once heard T'Pols voice. On the other hand, 'True Blood' has a very good German synchro with (in my opinion) better voices than the original.
But in any case, viewing Russian or especially Japanese and Korean films I highly recommend (even to the French) to view in original with subtitles. And of course, French movies should be seen in French....
