The concept is a bit scary, isn't it?

I have not seen this movie, only the trailer, but I must confess that the premise strikes me as a little scary. In our celebrity obsessed world, we are cheering on a guy that is literally STALKING an actress. And then there are the multitude of shots where his friends and family are all saying things like, "Go get her, Brian!"

...Yikes!

Not only that, but like any paparazzi photog, Brian Herzlinger et al are making a profit off of stalking this lady. Geez....

I saw the film, it was relatively innocuous. The guy in it was more dorky than scary. I tell you what's frightening as all hell: TheAstoundingCopperPanther, who's quoting Star Wars for no reason. Yikes!

reply

[deleted]

Maybe you should start--thinking about changing your tagline, you Star Wars dork.

reply

A few weeks ago the people behind the video were spamming the film general boards about the film. Anyone who complained got sent obscene and threatening PMs from them, so if I were associated with Ms Barrymore I'd definitely order more security while these guys are still at liberty.

"Gentlemen, is this a great moment or a small one? I'm afraid I don't know."

reply

It wasn't the Drew Crew that was behind the spamming, they were busy doing press junkets. It was one individual whom I've met and talked to that was behind it. His only association with the film is that he's a fan and that he did apologize for any inconveinence that his actions may have caused the board. Well, at least he apologized to me. So to set the record straight, the Drew Crew is the nicest bunch of people you'll ever meet and glad to say the release of the film and the attention it's getting has not changed them one iota.

Well actually as much fun as it would be to claim I am one of the Drew Crew I am not. The Drew Crew is comprised of Brian, Jon, Brett, and Kerry. I'm not only a fan of the film, not as overzealous as some, but also a good friend of Brian's. Since I'm not with them 24/7, based on the craziness that has gone on in the month's leading up the 8/5, I doubt they would have the time to spam a board muchless their own. Believe me or not, it's all the same. Any press is good press as the saying goes. While I don't agree with the methods that some have use to "promote the film, I agree that this is a film worth seeing and I'm not saying that because I know them. When I first saw the film I was hoping and praying that it didn't suck because I didn't want to look at Brian and say it blew. Thankfully it didn't. It's slowly making it's way around the country and I encourage you see it. Who knows after you see it we could be back here discussing, tearing it up, praising, whatever.

It would have been scary if the guy was a nutjob. But since within like ten minutes you can tell that he is obviously sweet and dorky, he makes you want to root for him.

It seemed to me that the filmmaker took great pains to avoid being a stalker. I used to work as a personal assistant for someone rather well-known, and I think if I had been working for Drew, I would have considered letting Brian meet her. Of couse, I'm sure that her security people checked this guy out.

My only complaint about the movie was when they showed how to forge a pass for the after-party. Yeah, I know, most stalkers would think of that, but I was uncomfortable with that part of the movie.

The guy in the film is completley harmless, kind of like Andy in the 40 yr old virgin. He's just a hardcore fan. I personally thought he put off kind of a gay vibe. I know he's not gay, but I lie in SF and he definatley had that vibe. Drew knew that he was not a danger.

I think it would be funny though if a certain sketch comedy show did a spoof with a darker twist showing him as a psychotic stalker smiling into his camera " Maybe I can jump the UPS guy around the corner and show up in his uniform at her door with a package with my homemade hair sculptures of her... Then maybe she'd go out with me." Tell me that would not be classic, *beep* I think I'll shoot it! I'm a genius!! Hahaha.

Oh yah, for the record I have nothing against gay people even though I myself prefer women. For thos that were about to paste their "hating on gays" reply.

Gotta agree with benjifish on this. I mean, sure, I think Jessica Alba is gorgeous, but you don't see me running around Hollywood trying to score a date with her and MAKING A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT IT! The fact that you can profit on a personal home video makes it all the more twisted.

Stalkers should NOT be making movies.

"The fact that you can profit on a personal home video"

Ever hear of YOUTUBE?

I wonder if the "documentary defense" will be used in the case of the man arrested last week scaling the White House fence because he was destined to marry....Chelsea Clinton.

If the movie isnt a big hit, they can always repackage it as
"Learn how to be a Hollywood Stalker in 30 days" and sell it on Ebay

How perfect. I am telling you guys, this movie's concept is a bit scary. Check out what I just found online January 28, 2005.

From MSN:

"Drew Barrymore has overcome many obstacles in life -- drug addiction, bad girl roles in B-movies, Tom Green -- but even she probably wasn't prepared for the scary actions of an obsessed fan.

A California man is facing federal charges after allegedly resorting to that old wooing standby -- fake anthrax -- in an attempt to get the attention of the bra-avoiding but still cute-as-a-button actress, reports Knight-Ridder.

Paul Charles Steeves, 43, reportedly told authorities that he'd had his eye on Drew, 30, for approximately seventeen years "because they shared common goals," although he fessed up to being "frustrated" that she had ignored his many missives.

To remedy the rejection, he recently sent letters crammed with white powder and photos of Barrymore to an FBI office in Watsonville, Calif., a probation office in Oakland and a rehab facility in Berkeley, according to an FBI affidavit. (The substance was later identified as baking soda.)

He also is believed to have posted a threatening message on a Drew-devoted Web site, warning that he "had expected her to peacefully contact me. Now it's war."

Steeves, it seems, made it easy for authorities to track him down -- the letters and the online posting contained his full name.

A search of his home revealed a cache of Barrymore photos, along with what authorities are describing as a "smoking gun," namely a half-empty two-pound bag of Arm & Hammer baking soda, according to the Bay City News.

Steeves, who was arrested Monday, could face up to five years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine if convicted of the charges.

It remains unclear whether he chose to reach out to Barrymore with ersatz anthrax due to her previous link to the toxic substance. Back in October 2001, she was rehearsing for a hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live" when there was an anthrax scare at NBC. Drew reportedly ran out of the building in tears and had to be convinced to return to the studio."

Brian and Steve Marcus must be so very proud.

I don't think that Brian himself is scary, just incredibly dorky and a bad film maker, but some of his followers are scary.
And I am not buying that the Drew Crew is not behind the constant spamming and trolling on the film. I smell them using easily denied sockpuppets for the less reputable stuff.

reply

Damn. Are there that many people that are jealous of this filmmaker? I watched the movie and there is nothing that indicates that he is a stalker. A stalker is someone who is perverted and dangerous and wouldn't take no for an answer. Had Drew said no to his idea of a date and keep on persisting in strange and bizarre ways, then it is time for her to get a restraining order. But this guy was harmless. I say good for this guy.

I think Drew Barrymore is attractive. But my goodness, I am not jealous to the point that I am going to accuse a lucky guy of a crime. Grow up!

reply

[deleted]

Agreed. And I'm a girl and I am particularly put off by stalker guys. This guy ain't one.

The movie was cute. All this anger to me smacks of jealousy of other aspiring filmmakers and/or Drew Barrymore fans.

I noticed this. I think that is a very key aspect of the film. It is what makes his attentions not creepy. He is not just some dude trying to follow her around.. it is the whole "six degrees of seperation" idea.
I really liked the film.

These guys call themselves the "Drew Crew"? Because one guy once had lunch with Drew? Now that's just weird.
