Silvana is NOT Machuca's cousin


It is common in Chile for kids to refer to neighbors and family friends
as Aunts and Uncles. Pedro Machuca greets Silvana's father as "Uncle",
but later explains to Gonzalo Infante that they are neighbors.

Thanks for that information. I was taking a world cultures class and we watched this to learn more about this coup in Chile, and it surprised a lot of people in my class when he refered to Silvana's father as his uncle, and a lot of us did not understand this correlation between neighbors and this reference. Again, thanks a lot!

No kidding... I was watching it with my Spanish class and half of them thought they were brother and sister! Eeww!

Hah. I wasn't paying attention at the beginning of the movie, so I thought they were brother and sister as well... which made that scene seem really really weird
