Re: Budd's sword

Why did Budd lie about having pawned off his sword? Seems like an insignificant detail, but they keep returning to the subject and it's revealed that he lied about it during a rather tense moment between Elle and Beatrix. Any point to this or is it just "Tarantino-ing"?

reply

I don't think he wanted other people to think he still cared about things like that. I am not sure why though.

reply

Caring can be seen as weakness by the 'macho' types, so he didn't want to admit to having a weakness (fondness and respect of the sword).

Perhaps he thought he could one day start using the sword again and train with it, or couldn't part with it for sentimental reasons (maybe because of what's written on it?).

In any case, it'd be a 'sissy' thing to admit it - in his thinking. At least possibly, who knows.

reply

He just wanted to hurt his brother.
