Dear Haters of This Film : Please Read

Why are all you G&J haters getting so up your own arse over a CHILDRENS film.

All i want from this film is to turn to my seven year old son at the end of it and ask "Hey son did you enjoy that film?" and for him to reply he did . I'm not interested in IMDB Trolls who are complaining because Gnomeo and Juliet didnt kill themselves at the end or trying to be really clever and ripping it to bits finding plots holes etc . If i wanted a nice traditional version with suicides i'd pop down the RSC and watch a jolly fine production of it.

Saw this film today and my son really enjoyed himself thats all that matters isn't it ?

So "I'm getting up my own arse" if I say this movie is a load of ****??? My gripe is just that there are too many of this type of movie out there every year. It's boring.Elton, you've got the money ,do a children's film that's a bit of a challenge and has just a little pinch of originality in it.If this movie is just for kids, no kid is old enough to have seen every c n'g film out there so just rent one for your kids.Theres no need to produce yet another piece of twoddle that'll just get lost in the forest of other crappy children's films done recently.

YES you are getting up your own arse because this film is not directed at you and nooone is forcing you to go see it . SIMPLE

I took my son to see it, it was his third birthday today, and his first time to the theater. He was actually crying at 3 parts, saying "My Gnomeo!" and he doesn't cry at any movies at home. I actually had more fun watching this than any other 3d movies since Kung Fu Panda. Some wonderful scenes, and the art style alone puts it above any other animated movie I have seen. I gave it an 8/10 and I really don't have any idea why so many people disliked it!

I'm 21 and I thought I would hate it but I actually enjoyed it a lot, probably more than the kids in the theaters b/c a lot of the jokes and references were directed for the adults (i.e. powerthirst reference and Brokeback Mountain joke).

In the end though, it is a kids movie, so I really don't see why there is a need to be overly critical of it.

Very true!

I'm 22 and I saw it with my boyfriend (same age) last night. Whilst it was a bit cheesy, it was good-natured and very humorous so I enjoyed it. I don't think my boyfriend liked it very much hahaha, but it's not his cup of tea. I just dragged him to it as I had no-one else to go with :P

The kids in my cinema were well-behaved and they laughed a lot, so it sounded as though it was ticking all the right boxes for its intended audience :)

I'm 17 and went with my 16 and 14 year old friends and we all loved it! We laughed and held our breath and all the other things that make movie watching enjoyable. Plus it had James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, a couple of my favorite actors, so I'd say it was pretty darn great.

reply

Completely agreed.

My 4 year old loved it. He laughed when he was supposed to laugh, he got excited when he was supposed to get excited.

Mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. :)

I only saw this film because I was out and about and needed to kill some time. I'd already seen everything else worth seeing so G&J essentially represented the short straw. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I found that there was enough humor for adults to keep me interested including several LOL moments. That's more than I can say for that waste of celluloid otherwise known as Rango.

Oh, get over yourself. It's fine that you and your son enjoyed it, but anyone else who didn't like it can't express their opinions? I don't appreciate your mentioning the fact that it's a children's film and your implication that it's something adults shouldn't be watching. As a matter of fact, most of the jokes were for the adult audience, with the stellar cast in particular providing a temporary thrill - hearing Julie Walters and Richard Wilson sling insults at each other was great. What child would appreciate such humour?

This isn't a children's film, it's a film made for everyone. Like Jim Henson's Labyrinth, or any of Miyazaki's works - examples of films well made that will appeal to all ages. I will never understand why people feel the need to act as apologists. When it comes to films like this they always bring up the "but it's a children's film" line, as if that excuses the film from it's mediocrity. A film can be made for children alone and if well made, will also satisfy the adults in the audience. This film did not for many people. Are their opinions worth less than your own because they are being negative?

If you didn't like this movie, the only way to describe you is to call you a bitter, hateful, cynical person who is incapable of experiencing the simpler joys in life. I feel so sorry for you. If all you have to say about a feel-good movie like this is negative, nit-picky things, you must just live an awful life full of disappointment and dissatisfaction. It is truly a shame just how many self-righteous, overly pretentious people there are in this world that not even a cute children's comedy like Gnomeo & Juliet can be free of harsh criticism.

reply

Yeah, we're all evil, heartless demons because we don't like a film that you do like, that we see different things than you do. Why oh why can't we all like the same things that you do? I weep for the world, etc....

That was very well said zfischer_05, I could not have put it better myself!!

I know this is a really old post but I just have to say I completely agree with you. I can't stand when people use the line of a movie being mainly targeted at children to excuse how awful it is. It's almost as if they think adults will take kids to a movie and then just say 'ok well this film is only for your age range so I'll just wait outside, see you in 90 mins kiddo!' The people who make these kinds of movies know that usually the children who go to see them will be accompanied by an adult, which is why they have jokes in them that only adults will understand/appreciate, to keep us engaged as well as the children. This movie, in my opinion, failed to do that.

We as adults are allowed to dislike a children's movie! Shock horror, I know. To be honest when I was done watching this I had the thought that I wouldn't take any children I know to see it. It wasn't terribly funny, even on a 'childish' level and there are so many more good decent films out there that I'd rather them see. It's so irritating that some people that defend this movie think that only good opinions are valid ones.
