Whats up with the bad rating?

The movie was hilarious and well made

A load of rubbish compared with the original TV series, it wasn't a bad film if you forgot the original alot of the cast weren't right Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg (I remember him to well as The Bandit), Rosco P Coltrane(trying to be to smart), Enos(not weedy enough), and Bo and Luke - they argued to much made Bo out to be a thick country hick - I can fully understand the BAD ratings it keeps getting

It's a terrible movie that's why.

"The movie was hilarious and well made"

This post was more hilarious and well made than this movie.

The movie was to "hilarious and well-made" what Schlitz Malt Liquor is to "finely crafted beverage."

I actually like this movie. Personally I think a bunch of Southerns that grew up on the original series hate this movie and give it low ratings. I was living in South Carolina when this came out and remember them talking *beep* about this movie. Me, I never watched the original show. So I first watched it not comparing it to anything.

I can see how people who didn't grow up watching the original series could like this movie, because they were never exposed to the spirit of the original series. So to help you understand why us old-timers hate it, think about a series, or movie, or book you grew up with that made you feel uplifting, happy, and positive. Now imagine someone decides to do a remake decades later, and turns it into a thinly veiled parody full of low-brow humor and with no redeeming qualities. Let's say someone took Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, and remade it as a raunchy comedy, with Gandalf as a shameless lecher, Frodo as a selfish bastard, Sam as a doped-up druggie, Legolas as a child molestor, etc. How would you feel?

Bad Movie = BAD rating

You know it's bad when one of the stars of the movie even says it is terrible.

Most of the casting was wrong. The writing was wrong. Uncle Jesse telling jokes the way he was wouldn't have happened. A skinny boss hog? Sheriff Roscoe wasn't cheesy like in the show. Daisy wasn't blond. The list can go on.
