i have a question about sky; is there at some point in the movie any reference to who the mother of sky is? i have some remembrance of a black and white picture?

beside that, i thought that the meaning of the sub-story (spence and sky) is that the sky's hunt for spence mirrors spence's hunt for earl; more generally, in the movie there are characters who are searching (spence, sky, tim roth) and other who are not (spence's mother, earl, earl's girlfriend). anybody agrees?

I wondered the same thing and recall the photo reference. It seems her character didn't benefit from insight into her mother such as the emphasis on the relationship between Spence and Earl's mom, even if it had been a verbal and/or historical account. Perhaps that would have balanced the story if a little more of Sky's mom could have been presented, although that may not have allowed for the impact of the disclosure scene...
