Really loooooooooong stare.....

Right before Gerard's character and Emily's character kiss, there's like a long 30 second pause of them staring at each other. It's probably the longest stare before a kiss i've ever seen! It was a really touching moment though. Excellent movie

I know! So amazing, so intense... one of THEE best films I've ever seen. It was a wonderful human story with so many themes. Gerry Butler added to the enjoyment too ;-)

I timed it--it was actually close to a minute. But I loved it nonetheless, because I wanted them to kiss so bad, and them too, and the long pause only added to the beauty of the kiss. x)

i was sitting in front of my portable dvd player watching that, screaming, "JUS BLOODY KISS ALREADY!" i loved that scene though.

It was great! According to the director's commentary she said she wanted the moment to build up in real time so we can see how The Stranger and Lizzy have to work out the awkwardness of the moment and become vulnerable. If you watch carefully, it's Lizzy who makes just the slightest first move, a hint that she has broken down walls she built up because of her ex.

Yes! And she is the one who had to make the first move. As an abuse victim, she was so skittish, that the stranger had to be very sure that she had control in that moment.

What's....this....ruckus?

It was indeed very touching. But the thing that ruined it was my mum saying "OK just kiss!" after like 15 seconds. -.-

yeah i started swearing because i thought my hired copy of the dvd had frozen the computer :-D

Hahaha, rujir_tigre, I love your comments. Give me a good laugh! I agree with all of you. The best kiss scene ever! It is not even passionate in act but very warm and moving. During the long stare, it pulled me in so deep in the film that I am dying to see it happen. However, after the kiss, I am hoping to see more development of their relationship but the film intentionally omit it. Except a small hint from Frankie's last letter at the end of film. The director is very clever to handle her materials this way. I am totally amazed by her sensitive touch in every scene.

LOL, you made me spill my coffee.

I definitely noticed that! But i think it made it even more romantic, because it really is between two people that barely know each other. i mean i would wait more than that amount of time to muster up the courage to kiss someone i just met.

except if it's gerry butler...then i might just tackle him the minute i see him ;)

reply

I think the long stare was necessary to make visible how much Lizzie was struggling to trust a man again after what Davey did to her and Frankie.
It was incredibly cute watching though ... So intense and romantic :)

Then again, who wouldn't want to stare at Gerry Butler the whole day? *yummy*

I'm a huge fan of ''last of the mohicans'' and in that movie there is a long stare before their first kiss too. I kept expecting them to make a comment to one another the way Nathaniel and Cora do in LOTM. She asks him what is he looking at and he replies, "well i'm looking at you miss''. However the characters in Frankie seem so emotionally disconnected I dont think either could think of anything to say.

It would have ruined the moment if either had spoken, it was perfect. I would have liked to have seen them kiss more, but too much more would have ruined it.

I would have loved to have been on the receiving end of The Stranger's stare also :)

I LOVED this scene so much! I kinda sat there like, "Any minute now..." XP It was so sweet and perfect. Gerry Butler's adorable.
