One stupid thing...

one thing that annoys me is how "Americans" label people from Mexican decent Mexican-American and black people African-American, but when it comes to people that come from Ireland, Italy, France, Russia, etc....they are just called Americans. Why isn't the label stuck with them as well? if the Mexican-American and the African-American label always sticks, then Irish-American, etc...should also be said, but knowing how Americans are prejudice, they disregard that label and just call them Americans. I know that no one would ever call Bill O'reilly an Irish-American, or Robert DeNiro an Italian-American.

They label themselves. Blacks wont simply be "Americans" they have to be apart.

Whites usually arent referred to as "Irish-Americans" or "Italian-Americans" because we get called "white".

Well that's not true at all. The term that was used for blacks was negroes and colored/coloured. African-American/Afro-American were used as early as the 1800's. Blacks didn't label themselves these terms. It was adopted by society as another name to call blacks. When has a majority actually sat down to ask a minority what to be called? Never.
