This movie seems to bring out all the mysoginists

I was just looking over the comments out of curiosity since I just rewatched this movie and was completely shocked at all of the "whore"s and "slut"s I've read in the comments section. It seems that this board/film has become a forum for scorned mysoginists??? Yikes. I originally did think that Kelly Brook ended up being the villain in this movie but honestly, after a rewatch (a few years later) I really think it was all Jack (Billy Zane). And either way, there is no excuse for all of the immature crap that has been posted having nothing to do with the actual movie ( like the guy talking about his girlfriend who swallows married c#%k). I mean really???? Every mature human being knows that you need to hold on loosely, my friends. If he had actually worked with the other two he would have kept his wife and perhaps gained a valuable friend. Manuel was clearly a very clever fellow who didn't need to save Jack in the first place. This is just my opinion regarding the movie, however it is a fact that if you post angry things calling women sluts and whores on IMDB you will not do well either on an isolated beach island in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of somewhere Manhattan island. Even if it's just you and Kelly Brook. She would kill and eat you.

I watched the movie recently. The movie showcases that women and men have different survival skills. That's all there is to it.

Billy Zane in the outside world was the epitome of a man that a woman would want. Lots of money, power, control, assertive. In that world, he was the alpha male. In the outside world the servant(forget his name) was just a guy who fetched drinks and took orders from guys like Zane.

On the Island, the servant had the skills to survive on the island. He had the tools, the ability to construct shelter, skill to fish and keep them alive. Zane didn't have these skills.

The woman, doing what women do, used what she has as a woman to live most comfortably in both environments. That to me, is the message of the entire movie.

I agree with what you're saying absolutely. That's part of what makes this movie so interesting. I guess part of my point is that upon initial watching I saw it one way and then years later after watching again I saw it in a different way, and that there are a lot of angry posts here that are very insulting to women in general. Watching it again I absolutely saw that she was working her stuff so to speak but Billy Zane really turns things ugly. He is the human antagonist here but also may be controlled by the "Bruja"??? Haha. Anyway, good point but I would add the caveat that Billy Zane forced her into really having to use whatever she could to survive.

I have only watched like 5 minutes of the movie and had to stop to see if it got any better and apparently not if this is the message of the movie. That, combined with the fact her married friend immediately wants to sleep with Miguel and the witch is shown as nasty being we don't even know why she cursed him and nobody cared that he back handed her. If I was Kelly Brooke's character I would speak up and not want a person so causally violent, especially against women on the same boat as me.

This reminds me a lot of that Modonna movie Swept Away, in which she's rich and useless and the guy is her servant but when they are on the island the power shifts. But there's no husband in that movie.

I think age is catching up with you ffshpaw. She screwed that a-hole long before any problems popped with Zane. Question: Do you believe in marriage vows? And who started the fire on the boat because they were an idiot? She was an opportunistic whore.

reply

Do you believe in not using the word "whore" while also trying to call someone old lol?. Hey, we're all entitled to our opinions here but let's try to keep it civil. And I know that more marriages end in divorce than not so no, I do not necessarily have faith in the institute of marriage. Not saying I don't respect it but I do agree that under certain circumstances exceptions should be made. How do you think you'd fare stranded on an island with very little hope of being found? You'd do exactly what you had to do to survive I am assuming. Also if you remember, she never did anything until Billy Zane started becoming violent. She even suggested that they "move away" to another part of the island. She had sex with Manuel to stop him from killing her husband.

As to the fire on the boat, the guy was stupid. Slightly different type of stupid than the titanic which I must have been alive for according to you but catastrophes happen all the time due to a stupid misstep.

Obviously you're on this board because you want to discuss this movie and I'm totally game but I really hope I'm not feeding a troll here.

Exactly. Manuel could've just choked out a clinging to life, almost dehydrated Jack anyway...and then let his body wash ashore to be 'discovered' by a now distraught wife. Easy pie for Manuel.

What might be lost in this movie is that him saving Jack actually contributed to his eventual demise.

Probably could've just "pretended" he didn't see him and he would've gotten away with it haha.
