Who would star in an American version?

I'm surprised some broadcast or cable network hasn't attempted a version of this show in America. But who would be the two stars? My vote goes for Traylor Howard (Natalie, the blonde from Monk) as Rosemary, and Cameryn Manheim (played Delia on Ghost Whisperer) as Thyme. What do you think?

Nice idea, thedreamer6, and I like your choices.
However, I think the charm of R&T is that they are older ladies(around my own age!), so I'd like to suggest JoBeth Williams as Rosemary and Veronica Cartwright as Laura Thyme. Let's have some more suggestions..

Good suggestions, jenniferfleming1. They are actresses I never thought of. I get the feeling, though, that with the way American television handles things these days they would go with young people as the stars. It seems older actors rarely get picked for starring roles (unlike the days of Matlock and Quincy M.E.), so we'd end up with two girls in their early twenties just so that the network could attract the younger audience. Oh well.

You are probably right, which would be a shame, but even so I think it could be an entertaining show.
I've just remembered an old series from the 70s with Mildred Natwick and Helen Hayes called "The Snoop Sisters" as a couple of aging amateur sleuths. I think it was quite popular, but as you said it probably wouldn't happen today.
Here in the UK things aren't quite so bad, and you don't have to be so young to get a leading role on TV.

They already have...it's called "Rizzoli and Isles."

Why do the yanks have to remake everything?

Cause we have few original series that are good. But other poster is right, Rizzoli and Isles had to have been inspired by this duo. I say we go a bit back and have housewives working with their housemaids to solve crime. Like Florence Henderson and Ann B. Davis, hubby's dead, kids grown, rest to keep their noses in someone's business. Then both generations will watch! Better yet, Betty White with anyone and we'll all watch here in the states. Nope, seems easier to watch the good (and bad) stuff from our "Motherland" on Netflix or Acorn.

I think that Susan Sarandon and Phlylicia Rashad would be a wonderful pair for an American version of this show.

That does sound like a lovely pair.?

reply

That was a statement, not a question.

Thelma and Loiuse.

Cagney and Lacey, retired from the Force.

I'd watch!

Then it would be retired from the farce!

How about Kathleen Quinlan and Nora Dunn for the US version of Rosemary and Thyme? Otherwise Conchata Ferrell and Susan Dey would make great casting.

Also other possible casting choices:
Cybill Shepherd and Florence Henderson
Sybil Danning and Maureen McCormack
Beth Grant and Jane Alexander
Beth Broderick and Viola Davis
Cicely Tyson and Cloris Leachman
Betty White and RuPaul
Christine Baransky and Adrienne Barbeau
Alfre Woodard and Bernadette Peters
Diane Keaton and Jacki Weaver
Dianne Wiest and Goldie Hawn
Pam Grier and Lynda Carter
Kellye Nakahara and Loretta Switt
Sally Field and Sissy Spacek
Jamie Lee Curtis and Morgan Brittany
Morgan Fairchild and Olivia de Havilland
Meryl Streep and Jane Fonda
Rachel Dratch and Rosemary Harris
Morgan Fairchild and Victoria Principal
Marilu Henner and Susan Dey
Glenn Close and Anne Archer
Glenn Close and Patti LuPone

Well that would guarantee the death of a British TV serial.
