Binary?

Hello?

Anybody here?

(ahem)

As the nature of superstrings was being described, where there are both open lined strings and closed circular ones, I wondered if anyone considered that it sounds like binary. Ones and zeros?
Well, I didn't get to watch the whole thing. It's cool stuff though.

Good call.

I think that the lined strings and circular ones are two sepearte branches of the theory. I think that there is a part where they explain two variations of the theory: circular and straight.

Or something like that, I haven't seen it for a while, but it is quite an amazing series (mini-series?).

It is similar to binary in that respect, but the theory is more complex in that there are many, many vibration modes, although I suppose that could be similar to having many different binary numbers.

It is a very, very interesting programme, although it is a bit dated given recent developments in string theory.

That's good, because I would prefer that the universe was born out of song than a computer program.

I think what they meant is that different models showed strings that were a loop and ones with ends. In the later episode they mention that it could be that the ones with the ends could have their ends bound to a membrane and those make up all the matter and energy in each universe and there are also looped ones that can escape the membrane and travel to other membranes and these may be messenger partials for gravity. Which is also why gravity is so many times weaker than the other three forces.
Hehe, I actually calculated the order of distance that the Strong Nuc. force works on. It is 10^-19 meters, (Very small.)

I see the comparison, however the binary system is a technological dead end (IMHO), particularly with research like the Turing machine and strong AI showing it's limits and potential to breakdown and halt.

It's highly doubtful that binary (as it is) will continue to be the primary source for our future computing age.

I do however believe that it's almost a given that these strings must have some type of low level mechanics, pure pulsating random energy just feels like Quantum mechanics and Relativity at odds again.
