Cady blamed for the notebook made no sense! Here's why.

She was a new student while the others have been attending that school for what? 3 years?

The principal should've suspected that it's NOT possible for the new girl, to write THREE (maybe more) YEARS worth of bad rumors about dozens of girls that she doesn't really know all that well because it's her FIRST YEAR being in that community let alone school.

It's been a while since I've seen this movie, but weren't Gretchen and Karen called in for the notebook as well? They had certainly been there longer than Cady.

I don't think she took the blame for the whole thing - just enough to clear Tina Fey's character's name

After that, she refused to squeal on the others. Since what was in the book wasn't strictly illegal or against school rules (bullying wasn't as big a deal back then), they couldn't force it out of her.

Worst case, she'd just go back to home-schooling.
