My guess is that she felt jealous and threatened that they may one day take her place as queen Bee
Imo, I don't think she was jealous. I just think she was Queen B for so long, she was just a judgmental person. She got a kick out of being in control and insulting people.

shareI wouldn't see why she would have a reason to be insecure or jealous, though? She's supposed to be the hottest/most popular girl in school. The movie basically made it seem like no one was comparable to her until Cady became plastic. Her being jealous of Cady would make more sense.

Only difference is that both Gretchen (especially)and Karen are weak-minded in the sense that they allow Regina to boss them around and tell them what to do out of fear of being ridiculed or kicked out of the plastics.
