So what happened?

What do you think would happen to the kids after they confess?
Would they go to prison, do you think it would be ruled as accidental or manslaughter?

Thanks

Of course we knew what happened during the accident so we know who is really guilty and who isn't.

Lets look at everything we know:

First all but Marty came to confess for the accident turned crime that occured earlier that same day. This will help the cause for them in the eyes of the police, since they know they are at least human to turn themselves in.

Marty was partly right saying that it wouldn't help their cause for them to know that they planned the whole prank on him, even if it just turned bad and he died. We do not know what the group of teens used for their story, I assume they told the absolute truth because of their attitudes (sadness).

The way that they buried him and the police had to dig them up definutely raises some questions.

During the interview the younger brother confessed on tape that his older brother was out of control (quote he had never seen him more out of control) when it happened. This doesn't help the older brother, especially since he was the one who pushed him in.

If the police found the video tape, they can see (since it showed earlier when the boy fell in the water) that he was recording when he fell in the water. From the perception of the camera we can see that the group of teens were in the distance, in the boat and just watching him drown as he screamed for help.

From the recording of him drowning, we saw it say record when it hit him in the forehead and he suddenly lossed contiousness. If there was no water damage or problem with the recording, the police can definutely see it was an prank gone wrong.

Verdict:
It comes down to the evidence with police. Obviously the story of the guilty is always taken into account but since the crime happened way earlier in the day the police could disregard their story since it could have been rehearsed. Especially with no witnesses around. What I assume it comes down to is the video tape they found. If the kid who died recorded the whole conversation, they could match part of the story the teens said. So the final question is who pushed him and was it on purpose. If they all told the truth, the crime would be mostly placed in the older brother's hands.

What happened to the teens:
So I believe Marty definutely went to prison, especially for fleeing and the robbery on top of that.

The older brother, I am not sure about since the story didn't reveil too much. Other than the younger brother saying that he had never seen his brother more out of control than during that time. So that will not help him at all. It is impossible to know what happened to the older brother because we don't know what evidence the police has. If the tape was damaged from when he fell in the water, all they can go by is the younger brother saying he was completely out of control. (Even though in my perception, from watching the scene of the accident, it appeared that the brother was merely trying to separate Marty and him. He did give a very hard push when he was at the edge of the boat)

The others, I would say therapy. However, the whole bury the body does not help their situation. So it comes down to what the police collect as evidence and whether it matches with their story.

Sorry for making the answer so long, but the story did not tell us what the police know and what their expression was about the whole crime.

Rocky being out of control, according to Sam, would actually help him. If Sam had told the detective that Rocky was IN control when he pushed George off the boat...that's deliberate. That would be more along the lines of willful endangerment of someone's life.

Nice analysis.

I personally think it would be classed as accidental death, they obviously have the tape plus their accounts of what happened (which would all match up) and the fact that so far as we know, none of them had been in trouble before. They would probably be in trouble for hiding the body, but there is a strong possibility that would all be dumped on Marty and that he would be the only one to do jail time (he's probably got a record and the others could say they were scared of him). Regardless of that, all their lives are seriously damaged by the situation and no doubt, they will need a lot of therapy!! The girl reminded me of Jenny in Forrest Gump, I can definitely imagine her going down a similar path.

probably involuntary manslaughter, with tampering with a corpse.. Marty would have been to blame for that bc most wanted to tell the truth but he forced them not to.. I think no jail time considering video evidence and fact they confessed the same day, they're kids/minors and aren't accountable for every action especially being led by a "aldult"

It would have been considered an accident if there wasn't a cover up.

Cover up means they all would get perhaps the lowest level manslaughter. The older kid that actually pushed him might get more charges

I cant see any mother letting kids walk away from something like that unpunished. If it were my kid, even if he was a total ass, and some kids watched him drown and then buried him, Id be mad as hell and would make sure they get punishment.

The kids stood there, watching George yell for help and did nothing. They may not have meant for him to die, but they certainly didnt try to stop it. Then they buried him. To me, they were indeed negligent and did something wrong and deserve fair punishment,
