old woman in love with young man/boy

How do you think the movie would be perceived if Ursula was an old man and Andréa was a beautiful young woman??

I don’t think it would have worked or have been as sweet or thought provoking because, putting aside the time, and Ursula’s naivety, its sweeter this way because I think society assume old men just lust and old women are sensible and wise. Too wise to fall so longingly in love the way Ursula did.

Its just a though.

It would be really interesting to see a story that is similar to a gender reversal of this story. It might work if the older man is like Ursula: innocent, immature, and utterly well-meaning. I'd really like to see it done so well that it doesn't feel sordid at all. It would be a big challenge to make that film.

Ann: I miss you every day.
Ed: Yeah, your aim sucks.

I agree it could work just as well with an innocent old man because the point is that the romance was completely non-sexual. It might be a bit less believeable because society generally expects old bachelors to be worldly while old maids are naive, but sure, it could work.

I recently saw "Venus" with Peter O'Toole playing an old man who falls for a teenager. It had the potential to be a charming story like this, but instead the director chose to give it sexual themes which sorta got creepy after a while. On the whole, though, it's an interesting love story.

I agree, though, I'd like to see a purely innocent romance between an old guy and a young woman. There have been a lot of films about old guys & young chicks, but they all turn sexual which kinda kills the sweet Victorian charm like we see here.
