why does olga...

reject andrea's kiss? i thought she likes him.

reply

No she doesn't like Andrea. And that is the reason why she is so stupid for rejecting such a beautiful man.

Daniel Brühl is simply the best!!!

Maybe she didn't like him in that way? After all there's almost 10 year difference between the two actors.

reply

I thought she like Andrea very much and even thought he was pretty cute but perhaps sized him up as rather unformed and immature (which was probably true).

reply

I agree--the doctor was too old, the boy too young...and who knows her history
anyways? She said she was on vacation and may have a boyfriend back home..or she is just over a relationship...she may not even like boys...who knows really?

reply

she may not even like boys..

LOL!

reply

She was a self-sufficient liberated woman. She could have well been a lesbian.

reply

Maybe the situation was just moving too fast for her. This was supposed to be either 1910 (novel) or 1936 (film), not post-2000.

reply

Another possibility: she'd just seen the doctor outside her window. She knew he was suspicious/jealous of her, and perhaps didn't want to be overseen kissing Andrea and fueling the doctor's suspicions.

But I do think she was attracted to him. The painting scene is unequivocally flirty.

The way she handled the "spiriting away" of Andrea made it seem like she was attracted to him. She could've easily told him that her brother was in London the night before at the pub or afterwards, in a private moment away from the prying ears of the doctor. But instead she chose to make him come to her, then present him with a choice he couldn't easily refuse, to escape the "prison" that she thought the sisters were trapping him in.

reply

It appeared she was only attracted to him because of his talent as a violinist. She first shows up at their house when she hears him play. Her brother being a violinist she appreciates his talent. So when he makes an advance at her she very quickly lets him know that’s not what she is looking for.

reply

No. She was only interested in furthering his career as a violinist. Where Ursula was honorable and kept her feeling to herself, Olga gave a slight impression that she cared for Andrea and caused him hurt when she showed no interest in him. She cared nothing for the feelings of the two woman that had taken care of him and given him a home.
