Not even a kiss....

It was a lovely film with great performances. But it would have been even better, I think, if Olga hadn't turned Andrea down. This movie really could have used some more romance. Plus: Daniel Brühl is so good in love scenes... Just watch him in "The Edukators"!

You've clearly missed something big here. The film is full of romance, but you have to look for it. There are no trashy, gratuitous sex scenes, but more understated love. It's subtle, definately, but it's there. Look harder, Lola.

It is sad that people do not know the difference between sex and romance.

The movie was romantic from start to finish and it was better than enough. It was a touching movie, not a "touching" movie. :)

I agree with you. I think of this as a very romantic film! The only thing I would've perhaps done is have Judi Dench as character at least kiss Andrea on the cheek while he's sleeping. But, the fact that she so softly touched his hair was also very romantic.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

In the special features the Director comments on Olga being the "wicked" character, as if it were a fairy tale. Indeed, Judi and Maggie's characters even comment IN the film how Olga is like a "wicked fairy."

In any case, I think Olga was taken with Andrea's talent and she was sincerely interested in Andrea's career. There's an argument that she certainly sent romantic signals to Andrea throughout the movie, but I like to think she was just being a good friend. Plus, they were the two "outsiders" to the village, so, understandably there was a special bond between them.
