Question for Mormons

Ok.. I used to live in Idaho so I do know what I am talking about.. Heres my comment...

<<--JUST BECAUSE IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MORMONS DOESN'T MEAN ITS GOOD!!!!!-->>

Why do video stores in Utah and Idaho have 3498394834 Copies of awful movies like this???? For some reason Mormons love movies like The R.M and The Home Teachers but the very same mormons wouldn't give a second glance to an equally crappy non-mormony movie with the same no-name actors and boring premise. I'm not bashing the religion, just please stop kidding yourselves into thinking that boring mormon cinema has anything decent to offer. Yes we know that the characters are Mormon and so are you, but that doesn't mean that you should rave over this kind of crap. Its actually insulting that the filmmakers expect me to laugh at these boring and stupid movies. They're just not funny..

The best two years was well made and well acted.
The Work and the Glory movies were also enjoyable.

The Singles Ward was fresh and its portrayals were relatively harmless and fun. the r.M. and Home teachers wore out the welcome. Fast. The whole mormon comedy thing needs to get seriously thought through again. They aren't winning over any other fans.

reply

The Singles ward was OK, for a first time director that is.
To answer the original poster's question, I'm sure there are lots of LDS families who find stuff in movies offensive nowadays. Some PG stuff is pushing the limit with sex, etc, and it can be hard to find a good movie that doesn't contain it. So if I'm Molly Mormon and I walk into the video store to find something to watch on Monday Night, something with Kurt Hale's name stickered on the cover is sure to get snatched up first. And since Utah is the world captial of Molly Mormons, video stores prepare for the demand.
Unfortunately the majority of the LDS "comedies" are absolute rubbish to watch and seem like they were produced by the local ward's Elder's Quorum.

reply

Well so far I have enjoyed all the movies.
Beats alto of the crap that comes out these days that everyone raves about.

reply

I totally agree with you!

And when you criticise these films so many Mormons take it to heart; it's frustrating!

reply

The Singles Ward and the rm are good for laughs. The best two years was okay, but I didn't like it as much as everyone else.

Saints and Soldiers was aweeesome.

But mostly they suck. This one, mobsters and mormons...ew.

reply

It's wholesome family fun, which is what we Mormons are all about.

reply

It may be wholesome and clean.. but it certainly isnt fun. Or funny for that matter. If I put on a deer costume and had someone almost shoot me in the woods it wouldnt be funny either.. Just dumb.

reply

I'm a mormon and yes, this movie is crap. Good "mormon" movies that I've seen:

God's Army
The R.M.
The Best Two Years
Suits on the Loose

Bad Mormon movies:
Singles Ward
Home Teachers
The Book of Mormon Movie (just cheesily done)

Okay Mormon movies
Brigham City
Charly
Saints and Soldiers

reply

It's not funny to you, but to Mormons it is and we also understand it better and could go deeper into what they say.

reply

I've been around Mormons all my life. The jokes just arent funny. There isnt anything deep about these awful movies.

reply

I do agree that these movies are not groundbreaking or really that great but they are funny to mormons because they are caricatures of mormons. You have to have experienced it to find it funny.
