Best Line in Flight of the Phoenix (2004)

For me it was after they bring back the wounded Nomad to their camp and the Mexican Cook says with authority...

"He ain't having any of OUR peaches!"

I almost died laughing!

reply

Hi Kwan!! :o)
I agree, that was a great line!!

I also love when Elliot tells Towns that it's an excellent plan and that the only flaw in it is that they have to rely on him to fly it!! LOL :o)

There are some really amusing and memorable lines in the original as well!! :o)

Thanks for the great thread Kwan, looking forward to reading some other favourite lines!! :o)

reply

Yes! That was a ironic line by Elliot.

The ONLY flaw is he has to fly it especially given Elliot's plane design history...

Another great line is when some asks "Do you think it will fly?" The response was classic

"I'll sh*t myself if it does.."

reply

Hi everyone!! :o)

I love Liddel's line in the debris field, this isn't the exact wording, but it's close, "all a person needs is love, if he can't have love, give him something to hope for, and if you can't give him something to hope for, just give him something to DO" GREAT speech!! :o)

They make the same decision in the original version, they decide that although it's hard work and it may not fly, it would be much harder work to sit around doing nothing while they wait to die.

I love how in the remake Towns makes a point of avoiding having to hear anymore "hopes and dreams" speeches, and yet, he is the one who gives the encouraging speech near the end that motivates everyone to dig out the buried plane and fly it home!! Great twist :o)

"have you ever seen a compass dance"?

reply

tua07972-- I have!! it is awful when you are lost.

reply

I second the vote for Liddel's line to Towns: "all a person needs is love, if he can't have love, give him something to hope for, and if you can't give him something to hope for, just give him something to DO"

This was one of the few things about this remake that made it worthwhile.

reply

Find that hugely amusing too, and seeing Town's face twisting with thought.

"I liked it when Elliot shot the guy and there was this silence and he's like "well that settles that" classic"

Haha, yeah, that was brilliant...Your eyes focus on the people arguing, then Elliot walks onto the screen and BANG, was totally unexpected, and he delivered that sentence brilliantly.

Elliot was a great character.

reply

yeah, that was the best scene of the entire movie, how it was acted by Giovanni.
All his scenes were very good, I liked 'Say please' line, lol, he was terrific there.

I was beginning to feel the price to be paid by a citizen exercising a position of dissent -S.Penn

reply

The Mexican had two of the best lines in the movie!

reply

[deleted]

I liked it when Elliot shot the guy and there was this silence and he's like "well that settles that" classic

"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

reply

Damn, beat me to it.
I liked the way he coldly held the pistol to the nomad's head while everyone was arguing. He pulled the trigger without a thought and simply states, "Well that settles that."
Perhaps what realy makes the line is the stunned silence right after he executes the nomad.

As good as it was the original was still better

No one of consequence

reply

And then Towns is like "YOU MURDERED HIM ***HOLE!!!" and he's like "oh shhhhhut up" that was great too.

"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

reply

actually they weren't nomads... remember? they didn't have women and children? :-)

reply

I just made a resolution I tell you all now that I will not break. I will never watch this version again.

reply

I SO wasn't expecting that. I saw him in the background walking up, no hesitation, just pulling the trigger - BLAM!

I seriously jumped and gasped "Jesus Christ!" - my hand actually flew to my mouth in shock! My husband was laughing at me but admitted that it caught him off guard too!

One of the best parts of the movie!

reply

That was my absolute favorite line in the entire movie!!! giovoni ribisi did an excellent job in this movie!!

reply

Elliot was the only member with any brains. Just don't tell me they were going to try to save the guy that just tried to kill'em

reply

I liked when the mexican guy says "you build toy planes man?"

reply

Clearly, the mexican had the best lines... see above

reply

this film was one of the best and most underrated films to come out. the cast was strong and it really was entrertaining.

reply

Rady had one of the best quotes in the movie. Besides the reply about the plane flying he says "If it does, I'll *beep* myself."

The best one was when he sees Sammi pray for his meal just before Liddle and Towns return. He tells Sammi a story.

"Let me tell you a story. A rabbi and a priest attend a boxing match. They watch as the boxers come into the ring. The rabbi sees one of the boxers cross himself. So the rabbi turns to the priest and asks: What does that mean? The priest says: Not a damn thing if the man can't fight."

reply

"I've run in three marathons."
"In a row I hope!"

"I think a bee stung you in your big dumbass head."

Boy, do I hate being right all the time.

reply

my favorite was when the plane started to run at the very end of the movie and quaid screamed out "we made our own launch" but the way he says it makes it sound like he is saying "we made our own lunch" I laughed so hard

kenneth

reply

i think that the best line was from Sammi, you know the Mexican dude, after the wing came crashing into the plane and they thought he was crushed, then they realized he was alive, and he said to them, "any one got a change of pants?"

i like how they mangaged to put humor in this drama.
it all ties in well.

reply

I also loooved that that, but even before that when Rodney (who i absolutly loved!!!) said,

"You mad, meaxican b**tard!"

and especially w/ his irish accent, omg it was hillarious!!!! ok well its good to get that off my chest...

adrienne
"I see the world Lucius Hunt, just not as you see it."

reply

My favorite lines was definetly the exchange between Elliot and Towns after Elliot shoots the smuggler! That whole bit had me cracking up!
Also the checklist at the beginning where Towns was doing his Clinton impression was great!
-Gypsy

"No! No sprinkles!! For every sprinkle I find, I will kill you!" -Stewie (Family Guy)

reply

Rodney was Scottish, not Irish.

Said the moonchild!

THANK YOU!!!

i thought he said we made our own luck?! lol i dunno.

reply

You're absolutely right. It's "We make our own luck". Tyrese's character (I think) had just given him a St. christopher's medal, saying "This has always brought me luck."

***************************************************

Why don't you make like a hockey player, and get the puck out of here.

reply

On the closed captioning it's "we made our own lunch"?

reply

My favourite lines in this film:

Liddle Hey, what are you doing?
Ian Oh, just sending an e-mail to an old friend.
Liddle What? Really?
A pause - Ian laughs, then so does Liddle
Liddle
You're a funny f---er.

(not exact)
Jeremy Hey, don't I know her from somewhere?
Sammi What are you talking about? You don't know her?
Jeremy Yeah, I do.
Jeremy turns the picture upside down
Jeremy
Oh, now I recognise her!

Ian is speaking forgein language
Ian
Erm... 'aeroplane'...
Rodney Just try 'aeroplane'.
Ian gives in
Ian
Aeroplane
He uses his hand in gesturing the plane hitting the sand and grunts.

Rodney lights his cigarette in the torch that Jeremy has.
Rodney
Cheers, man.
He gives the cigarette to Jeremy, who inhales, then takes it back.
Jeremy
Man, them things'll kill you.

Oh, yeah, and this isn't a line, but I love the scene when they start the music and everyone is hanging out and Sammi, James and AJ dancing around, Towns is hanging out on top of one of the wings (looking hot), Ian's hitting golf balls (where the hell did THAT come from? - and also looking hot).

Said the moonchild!

reply

For some reason, I always laugh soooo hard on the part where the plane is moving and the wire for the rudder comes off:

Elliot- Captain!! We have a problem!!
Towns- Elliot, where's my rudder?!?
Elliot- That's what I'm trying to tell you!?!?!?
Towns- Well, then fix it!!
Elliot(under his breath)- Sh*t!

That makes me laugh every time!

I also love the part right after he shoots the guy in the head and is telling everyone off.

Elliot(right after shooting the guy)-Well, that settles that.....
Towns- What the hell is wrong with you?! You murdered him, you a$$h0le!!
Elliot- No, no, no, no.............The great Mr. Towns, murdered him. In his infanant wisdom, he told you to go over there when I told you not to! And now, we're one man short! That's 12 man hours every day we work. Last night, along, costed us 84 man hours because none of you worked! (Points at Towns) You made the wrong descion!! You could have killed us all.......AGAIN!!

Also:

Mr. Towns? Who's the boss of everyone?

reply

I liked the lines Rodney said
before he died

don't crash

then I felt sorry he died

when there's no more room in hell, the beertjeuhs will walk the earth

reply

Anything with Rodney is good!
I love Rady's speech after James says he can walk to Langhu. F-u-n-n-y.
I also like when Rady's putting Phoenix on the side of their plane.
~
This isn't a favourite line, but my favourite scene is when James changes Sammi's soul song and AJ's dancing, et cetera. I always rewind to that one a bunch of times :P

reply

I guess I have to say my favorite line of the movie is anything that Rady says... I guess the cream of that crop is "Have you ever seen a compas dance?" My fiance's favorite line is "too old, the way the sand shifts around here". I know, I know... my fiance and I are kooks!

reply

Guys beat me to it with the "Well that settles that" line-I crack up every time.
Some others:
Elliot:(After realizing the runway ended with a sheer cliff) "Well I guess we'll just have to compensate."
Sammy:(After hearing Ellio't plan)"Why don't we just build a swimming pool while we're at it?"
Sammy:(After dangerously connecting the wing)"Anyone got a change of underpants?"
Elliot:(After Towns saves him from being electrocuted)"Thank you." Just the way he says it makes me laugh-all weird and scared.

Oh-sorry if these were already said, I only read a few of the previous posts.

reply

God, noooooo!

'I find it hard to believe that a man who learnt to fly never had a dream.'

Or to that effect.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"

reply

How about the whole johnny cash song at the begining? I think "Iv been everwhere" made for a good intro.

reply

One line that cracks me up every time I watch this is near the end when Towns says he's gonna fire a shot to clear the cylinders or whatever, then Elliot says:

"But Captain Towns, there are only two shots left!!" in this really nasal voice.

He just sounds so funny, it's hysterical.

reply

"Well , that settles that"

reply

the best was when elliot tells em he designs planes...and rodney is like "you might of mentioned that little piece of information a little earlier here yeah?"
