I watched the original a dozen times and this one twice

I watched it the second time to see if it was as bad as I remembered it.

Here is the problem with the remake, there was no feeling of desperation.

The first version they had their skin pealing and their lips were all cracked you could feel the suffering

The second version it looked like they stayed in the sun at the beach and got a sun burn, one of the characters first priority was to shave so that he would look good when he was rescued

version one they were struggling to get up and work and they plane and were expending all their energy thing to build the plane

Version two one of the most ridiculous scenes had them dancing and having a party while Doctor House was prancing hitting golf balls there was no sense of urgency

Takeoff

version one there was a lot of suspense when the pilot was using the starter cartridges trying to start the engine

Version two less suspense starting the engine but the takeoff was more exciting with the guys on horses shooting at them.

I could make the list longer but with the exception of a more exciting takeoff in version two there was no reason for a remake.

Thomas Gibson has been fired from Criminal minds now I won't watch CM, No Hotch no watch

You've seen the original a dozen times but don't remember the model maker shaving? He had an electric shaver that interfered with the radio.

Frankly ive seen this version more. Simply because i find the original to be boring as hell. Half the film just feels like them just sitting around waiting for sh!t to happen. This version isn't great. But i find it far more entertaining and is a passable popcorn flix. I usually prefer old classic over the remake. I mean give me the original Psycho over any of the remakes. Or the 1957 classic 3:10 to Yuma to the 2007 remake. But the original Flight of the Phoenix just didn't make me give a sh!t about anything that was going on at all. And that pretty bad considering it stars Jimmy Stewart.

Have to say I tried to come back to this version and re-watch it. It just strikes me as shallow and totally lacking in drama.
I like D. Quaid, G. Ribisi and H. Laurie. That said John Moore couldn't direct traffic!
I'll take Mr. Stewart and his crew any day.
