Incredible cinematography *spoilers*

When I first saw this movie, I loved it and watched it three more times that weekend. The cinematography and acting are incredible. My favorite shot is the shot where the father falls off the tower and the camera peers over the edge.Should have been nominated and won for best foreign language film.

I agree, it was probably the best acting I have ever seen, normally when I'm watching a film I find myself thinking that I nor anyone else would ever behave that way in real life, but for this film the actors were very convincing.

This film is in my top 5...I absolutely love it! My favorite shot is actually at the very beginning when the camera extends away from the tower and holds the birds eye view as the kid jumps into the water.

I agree, and so did the jury of Svenska Filminstitutet in Sweden. The Return won a "Guldbagge" in the category "Best foreign movie".

yeh the two birds eye view shots were amazing. another one of my favourite shots is when the two brothers are fishing and they appear just as silhouette. although it only lasts a few seconds, it was a great shot.

I just watched this film and was amazed by the cinematography as well. The landscapes were beautifully shot. Definitely one of the best foreign films I've ever seen..

reply

How did they do that anyway? It was done in one take.

the cinematography is godlike.

I agree, the cinematography was brilliant. I also wondered how they did that shot, I think he was pulled back and another actor was laying on the ground.

Huh... you must be right. I haven't thought about it before.

reply

Yeah I thought it must be something like that. That must have been the easiest way to do it.

On second thought... there might have been a cut between the two shots. It's not that hard to insert a cut. :))))

reply

The easiest way to do it would be to have the actor actually fall.
