Was I the only one that thought that... (SPOILERS)

Was I the only one that had a feeling that the father would somehow die by the end of the movie? I don't really know how to explain it, but for some reason deep down inside I felt that he was going to end up dead and that the two sons would end up being regretful about it.

Maybe it was just a lucky guess.

I saw this coming from a mile away. I don't know if I've just seen too many movies now but the creepily haungting music, the eerie cinmatography, the mysteriousness to the film. I knew someone was going to die and I figured it would be the father considering of the confrontation he and Ivan had encountered so often throughout the film. I kind of wish he hadn't because I hate it when my predictions are right. It's kind of a let down. Still a good movie though, and Ivan Dobronaravov's performance was spectacular!!!!!!!

I didn't get that feeling at first but once he was dead I recalled that the first time the boys see their father, he is asleep. He is lying in the same position asleep and dead which, I'm sure, was foreshadowing his death.

I kept on thinking he was going to wake up! I knew that the fall was too big to survive but still I was thinking somehow he was still alive, or that when Ivan woke up before they found him sinking it would turn out to be a daydream (that would have have been ludicrous though).

I actually thought Ivan was going to die when he climbed up the tower and threatened to jump. I didn't see the father going.

Indeed! I also thought, at first, that Ivan was going to jump, and then when the father fell down, I kept expecting him to wake up.

I usually try to figure out where the movie is headed but for this movie half way through, or a tad before that, I gave up.
The movie was getting esoteric and all 3 characters were so mystic that on every different scenario I found conflicting display of emotions from each. It looked like the Dad is definitely psycho ex-convict or some sort who's gonna slit kids' throats, but next scene he makes me feel like he's teaching his kids the way of life through harsher reality in his own way. Ivan was acting obnoxious from time and over from his POV.
Ivan, he looked like, he was gonna burst into flame every other second but again he was emoting with mixed feelings whenever his dad does something valuable.

For aforementioned reasons, I gave up and I rode with the wave. I didn't try to predict what was gonna happen after. I was too captivated by their performances, emotions displayed and all those godlike cinematography.

In the end, death of the father didn't matter much nor did the lack of punchline closure because the most important thing was the journey itself and the esoteric lessons and bonds that was passed along already.
Ivan screaming "Papa" at the end is the testimony of what I said.

Passion before Rationality before Conformity.

I myself was thinking the younger (chicken) kid was jumping this time. That he had somethint left to prove.
