Can you relate?

So I was at Blockbuster and saw this movie. What got my attention was the girl on the cover (Kylie) looked alot like my best friend. I like strange movies and this seemed pretty strange so I grabbed it. I just finished watching and..heh...it was pretty good. I laughed out loud twice. Once was when I found out that was Jesse McCartney. Whats the deal with him? Anywaayyyss....I thought it was really good. Mainly because I relate to the movie. 20yr old fat chick that talks way too much and says things I shouldnt and regrets alot of what I do..of course..after it happens. Oh not to mention, I fall for older guys and Im a total loser! So yeah...I liked. Although I have to agree with the other posts about the sterotypical fat kid thing is that we're constantly shoving food down our throat. (::eats a hersheys kiss::) I mean, I was kinda grossed out by how much pizza she ate and the whole cake thing. Sometimes I wanted to smack Cara and tell her to shut up! When you act like the characters are real people..thats when the movie is good. <3 Allie

Yeah, I ALWAYS like indie films like this and can usually relate. I'm a tad bit over weight (probobly only by like 10 pounds but still) and I sometimes say and do things I'll regret later, so I could see myself in Cara's shoes.
But mostly I could relate to this movie because other high school chick flicks are *beep* hard to relate to at all. Expecially hollywood ones.

I thought the "popular" kids were extremely accurate. But Cara-Ethel was stupid. The scene in the basement really pissed me off. Why would she be stupid enough to trust them over Matt, considering how they've treated her all these years and how good he had been to her the whole night. Earlier in the film I told my friend, it didn't seem like she appreciated what a good night she was having with him when we're made to believe she didn't have one-single-friend.

Other than that I thought it was one of the most *beep* up movies I've ever seen.

I related to Matt more, except I'm a girl, but most of his character stuff I could relate to.

I loved this movie but she seemed a bit too stupid sometimes for a "smart" girl. But I can see why she did what she did in the basement. He accepted her and she wanted to be accepted. When you are fat (I am) you have to rely on other things to have people actually look at you. Like a great personality (cliche) so her being totally honest is her thing which doesn't work. There were a few scenes that I felt she was acting too stupid for her own good but for the most part if you are socially retarded (I am) then you say almost anything or do anything you regret almost as soon as it's done

What's creepy is I was told this girl looks EXACTLY like me. So I had to come on here and check it out. It DOES look like me.

I can relate to it. She probably enjoyed riding in the truck, but might have been annoyed with or secretly mad at him for smoking a lot or not talking much. I don't know for sure. Cara-Ethyl was 17 in "Pizza" and Kylie was 16 at the time.

>> Nej inte alls Jah sökte på lithell pastor men det offrades ingen pizza alls???

No, not at all Jah searched for Lithell pastor but it was sacrificed, no pizza at all.

I totally know what you mean!!

I'm like you; I like offbeat movies, so when I saw this one I figured I would check it out. I was envisioning an unlikely-buddy movie with a self-esteem message.

I was really disappointed in this movie, and almost turned it off, but I wanted to see how it ended. The storyline felt really stretched, like they were trying to cover too many aspects of both the main character's lives. Mostly, though, my issues were with the characters themselves.

I disliked Cara-Ethyl's character. I guess I was expecting her to be a relate-able type, and she really wasn't. I don't think teenagers can relate to someone with obvious knowledge and maturity who is sexually immature and naive. She freaked out when Matt's roommate and Desiree were fooling around (she actually covered her eyes), she tried desperately to act and talk 'hip' in a way that was just sad, and she actually pretended to faint to get out of an awkward situation. Cara-Ethyl was just an altogether unlikeable character. I'm not saying she was unrealistic, because I'm sure there are people like her, but I just couldn't get into her as a protagonist. I think the main problem was that I didn't feel sorry for her. In fact, I totally agreed with Matt when he said "that's why no one came to your party." She had this amazing way of alienating anyone she talked to, and never knowing when to stop.

I felt like Matt's character didn't get enough time to develop. We hear about him being a political activist, but he never seems to get worked up about anything. I never fully understood why he stuck with Cara-Ethyl in the first place; there didn't seem to be much chemistry there (besides what Cara was trying to make up).

So in my opinion, this movie gets a C. It could have done a great thing; having the fat girl be a hero and coming to see herself in a new light, but instead it went with a laundry list of stereotypes and annoying personality traits, with even her new friend rejecting her in the end.

A downer, and a horrible example for movies to follow.

I was pretty immature in high school, and a bit chubby about 20 pounds overweight now and then. But, now I'm in my 30s and I'm thin and muscular! LOL High school is tough, and what is funny now is that I've looked up some of the people I went to high school with and they are fat and have a ton of kids...some of them bald. Not to brag, but I wear a 28" waist and look like I'm 25-30 years old and they have beer guts. I'm completely into fitness, and honestly I don't like some of the messages sent to teens that it is okay to be yourself and be overweight. It's really not healthy, and a teenager should not be as big as Cara-Ethyl. I blame families for letting their kids get that big if they do not have a glandular problem. Anything over 50 pounds requries a doctor's intervention. Teens like Cara would have more self-esteem if they were involved in athletics and fitness programs. It really is child abuse to let kids get that overweight.

No, I couldn't. She was a fat and obnoxious freak.

I found her pretty realistic, I mean I guess teens don't realize just how annoying they are. And I was just as sexually stupid and immature as Cara Ethal, if I had seen a naked guy walk in front of me with his penis in my face I would have fainted. I don't think I ever saw kids make out either.

The idea that everyone is having sex and doing drugs in high school is simply not true. Some teens remain downright childish until their late teens.

People like Cara Ethal really do exist...just because you can't relate to that doesn't mean it's unrealistic. The character is based on a friend of the director.

As for being fat....well I mean we drug kids up on tons of medications these days. Some kids really need certain medications for certain disorders. We forget that there are more ways to treat illnesses and disorders today than there have ever been. And of course all the processed crap in our food in the past 25 years hasn't help. Personally, I think they put the actress in tight clothes to make her look bigger than she actually was.
