The Ending...

What a waste of 2 hours. I simply watched this movie because of the actors in it, especially Paul Newman's character. But my god, what an awful ending, or i should say lack of. Not one single conflict in the story was resolved! Even more frusturating was the fact that many of the conflicts never showed an actual origin. AWFUL! I want my two hours back!

I loved this movie, but I was also in shock when it just ended. However, I can only hope that when it said "end part 1" that means there will be a sequel and I will definately watch it.

There is a Part II out already.

reply

I do not know either there will be the part two or three.
But this ending is o.k.

You struggle with troubles of which you aren't sure anymore where they originated from, there is no visible solution to nothing, the whole thing continue without any promis to be ever resolved.

"no happy ending" mirros our life.
but the miserable stupid death of that manuplative woman was comforting.

thats how it ends in the book. you get the impression that life goes on.

The epilogue did resolve some of the story lines. But I gotta know--
when did Miles finish painting the church?
whatever became of the romance between his brother and Charlene?

reply

Life doesn't have neat little resolutions. Most major conflicts in life continue to cause ripples for years. That is very realistic.

I loved this movie, and the book is fantastic as well. Ed Harris is amazing.

It felt like a pilot to a regular series to me. Unfortunately, we will never see one.
