Funny, because it only shows how gullible and stupid people are.

Seriously, it makes perfect sense nobody of the ones Alan Conway conned dared stepping forward because they'd only reveal themselves to be total fools.

Nobody ever stopped and thought:"Hey, this notoriously reclusive film director, who is famous for his insane attention for perfection, is suddenly out of the blue going to support amateur metal bands, lousy entertainers to perform in Las Vegas(!!) and promise them everything while clearly having no clue neither about film making nor pretty much anything else."

For all of you thinking nobody knew how Kubrick looked like back in the 90's I can only inform that his characteristic beard and hair was fairly familiar to people that read newspapers or had seen documentaries about him. Since he was a living legend in his time, plenty of pictures existed of him in all media. He wasn't frickin' Howard Hughes who looked like a hermit/caveman in his final days.

As much as I despise con men, I find their "victims" dumber still.

I have come across lousy con men by their dozens while traveling abroad. Some of them claimed to be the heir of some industrial tycoon or some royal family, and it works on all those idiot tourist women thinking they hit the jackpot.

Personlly I have been very close to knocking the teeth out of those despicable pieces of scum, especially since they have mannerism beyond what I can accept as a "pathetic clown".

"Kubrick's" claims of casting Annette Funnicello in his films, of being in pre-production of 3001: A Space Odyssey with Elizabeth Taylor as mission control, and calling on his old school chum Moe Greene in Las Vegas should have been giveaways to anyone of sound mind.

As you note, Conway's victims were even more pathetic than Conway himself.
Basically, the movie was about how people were so hungry for fame and recognition (or brushes with famous people) that they're willing to believe anything for a chance at it.
