Scam harder to pull off today w/ Iphones

The con, playing on peoples tendency not to think when they are starstruck and the lure becoming famous themselves, would be much harder if not impossible to do today because people would take pictures of the person w iphones and/or download what Kubrick actually looks like.

But what a great scam. Using famous Kubrick name, combined with a lack of knowledge of the public of what he looks like was the key.

Not to many famous people today that are in the world that people don't know what they acutally look like.

Can you think of any names?

Here's an idea: Ask a randomly selected group of American Idol viewers about Stanley Kubrick, and see how many know who he is, and can name his films. Then, ask them to name some James Cameron films. Then, ask about their favorite actors and movies with those actors, and you might get a much larger response. How many fans of popular movies remember details of directors, producers and writers? In 1990, even a late 20-something would know of Kubrick, though few had actually seen him, they had seen at least one of his movies.

The access of even the most "secret" information is now instantly available wherever a connection to the Internet can be found. And even someone that managed to stay out of printed media for decades might not be able to beat the 'Net.

You could always claim to be the novelist Thomas Pynchon, who categorically refuses to be interviewed or have his photograph taken.

Other than that, I'd be hard pressed to name anybody "famous" who would be difficult to identify in a world with internet access.

Lord Lucan. Although pretending to be him would not be a good idea.
