At her art opening, Julia Roberts says to Clive Owen something like "you look like the cat that got the cream. You can stop licking yourself" He responds that that may be the meanest thing she has ever said to him.
Finally, heres my question: what does that mean and why is it mean? Love this movie and this has always bothered me. Thanks for any input.

Pretty sure it’s “can’t stop licking yourself.” I take it to mean he got what he wanted and is even gloating a bit.

Not sure why it’s mean though.

because he is gloating as he got filled with narcissism.

It just means he stopped making an effort and is only resting on his already achieved credentials. Basically she is calling him lazy.
