I think the daughter got her mental illness from her father. The guy didn't live in reality. He lived in a fantasy world. It was his inability to help his daughter when she was having a difficult time adjusting to having a stutter that was the catalyst for her seeking refuge or being brainwashed into that radical political cult. Not the one at the end but the one where she helped build those bombs.

I thought she was actually the normal one. It was the father and daughter that were really strange. Thing is, she actually convived her father that he was the best man for her. What a bad decision she made.
