WTF?!

i only ask: why? im jewish - and man do i find this movie offensive. this is worse than keeping up with the steins. theres so much crap out there about jews and i dont appreciate this movie feeding the flame. theres no way anybody could mean well by making this movie. maybe the writers/directors/producers are looking for laughs, but this is just in bad taste.

just deal with it - stop complaining - life is funny - people are funny - be it jews - christians - muslims, learn to laugh at yourself instead of getting constipated everytime an "offensive" movie comes out.

i dont get constapated every time something "offensive" comes out. i usually enjoy seeing jew jokes getting out to people through movies, but this movie has gone way over the line. you have to look at the whole situation from my viewpoint. the entire jewish family is screwed up. the only likable character in the movie is the palastinian guy, and all the jews are borderline mentally retarded. i think its completely logical for somone who identifies so closely with judaism to be offended by this movie.

Abe,

I don't share your opinion of the movie but I do respect it. The way I see it, emotionally healthy families don't usually make good subjects for comedy. I found the characters likeable even if they were a little crazy. Although none of them particularly reminded me of people I know, and they were, unquestionably, over the top, I found that underneath, they were "only human." I wasn't offended.

i just watched it today and i thought it was fantastic and utterly hilarious. being a non-jew i think i can have a fair assessment of the matter. i found nothing offensive in the directors' treatment of the jewish family. i never came out of the theatre thinking all the jews are borderline mentally retarded. they were over the top, yes, and their neuroses were exaggerated but only because this is a comedy. would you enjoy a comedy with jewish characters that all have the sensitivity of adrien brody's character in the pianist? i think not.

>>> This is worse then Keeping up with the Steins

I haven't seen "Only human" yet, but I am Jewish and "Keeping up with the Steins" was a good movie

There's absolutely nothing whatsoever offensive in that film whatsoever. Get off your high horse, silly person.

The argument between Leni and Rafa in the bathroom at the end is excellent as well.

Also as a non-Jew, I liked this movie. It was silly, but very funny. I guess not being Jewish I don't really get how this movie was offense. I mean, every other Jewish person I've know seems to make reference that their family is the most insane family ever, to the people where they try to "out-do" other people who claim their family is the most insane (which always cracks me up), so I'm not really sure where the offense comes from.

All I can say is, it's nice to see a Jewish movie that isn't about the Holocaust. I've watch upwards of maybe 50 Holocaust movies and I just want to see a normal Jewish movie for a change. I also saw Keeping up with the Steins and Only Human was way funnier and overall a better movie than that, though I didn't hate Steins (it was okay). I also felt this was better than Prime with Uma Thurman, since they sorta reminded me of each other a little.

Same here. I was really offended by the way Meet the Parents portrayed all white American Christians as obsessed with counterintelligence and digging into people's private lives. Made us look like nutters!

I'm not jewish but I thought it was hilarious. I don't see why anyone jewish would be insulted by this film, maybe something was going on in 2006 that made the op overly sensitive.
