Obviously she got "ganged up on", whether she wanted to or not (her face stated she didn't know what she had gotten into), who knows ? So I'm not asking that, but this scene reminded me of a scene from another movie where guys are being escorted out while something is going on inside that they don't like, but I can't think of the movie or if it's just a recurring nightmare of mine, but I think it's from another movie. If anyone knows I'd appreciate an answer. Thanks.

This was a very irritating part of this film. American girl gets brutalized by a gang of drunken natives, left alone to make it out alive and she is the one who apologizes ? And then she jumps some guys bones RIGHT AWAY? It's so unrealistic and silly That kind of brutalization would traumatize any woman and it certainly would have mentally destroyed any woman as sheltered and coddled as this one seemed to be.. They should have written that scene another way because the dismissive way they wrote it is a slap in the face to all women.

Yes the book made it clear as to why the entire scene happened.

Sanderson was a vicious brute of a man who not only berated Chenault constantly, but he also physically abused her. He may have been sexually abusing her too. He kept her drunk much of the time and had his place setup so that he could lock her IN without having to let her OUT.

He had threatened to let "them" rape her before, and told her that it would be her fault. In the book he is also completely broke poor, living in a small hut that he built on his own and only eating what he can catch.

Yeah, it was a pretty messed up, nightmarish scene, but you're all ASSUMING she got raped or gang-banged. That COULD have happened, but whatever happened was left pretty ambiguous. If they wanted it to make it CLEAR, that is what happened, I think they would have.

She got raped big time. The book makes that very clear.
