im curious if directors dropped out of this or if they were trying to do this cheap and thats how they ended up with a guy who hadnt directed in nearly 20 years. another movie i watched recently that had failed had a similar situation where someone who is primarily an actor and rarely directs, and has never directed anything great when they did, gets thrown behind the camera and botches a potentially awesome movie.

i will be more aware of this flawed formula in the future so i know not to bother wasting my time. i dont remember much of what happened in the movie because there was not much of anything worth remembering.

There was so much liquor, everyone forgot the plot.
Unremarkable Johnny Depp movie.
He did act well, but it wasn't enough.

I think I only watched about 45 minutes of it before turning it off. I usually love JD, but I just couldn't get into this movie. I thought it was terribly boring.

Moberg is the sh!t though.

"Withnail and I" by Bruce Robinson is one of the best movies ever made.

"The Rum Diary" however I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Robinson was very good friends with Hunter S. Thompson, they used the same artist (his name escapes me) to do the artwork for their projects.

Robinson was more than qualified to direct an HST story which makes me so disappointed with the final product.
