Anniyan Me myself and Irene Se7en and Fight Club

This movie looks like its been inspired by the above movies for the storyline...It might be inspired by matrix for the fight scenes. As far as the storyline goes it clearly has a tinge towards em. Well this is not new in Kollywood(nayagan from godfather). I wud say this is an Indian version of hollywood movies not an original. Kamal does it all the time. Most of his movies are inspired...Comments welcome...

inspirations and adaptations are not a new in indian cinema.it is not common only in kollywood it is happening big time in bollywood. as far as anniyan goes i dont know what to say but a total waste of time. for that big a budget shankar could have gone for some other story line or remade fight club as it was.

yeah i agree with u .. anniyan seems to have ideas from the above movies .. and stunts from matrix reloaded .. yeah this is not the first time either .. but i wldnt say tht nayagan was based on godfather .. mani ratnam was just inspired by it .. it was actually based on the life of a gang boss in bombay .. it is surprisingly based on a true story, only the ending has been modified and is shown with kamal dying in it. he is supposed to have died smwhr arnd 1990 ..

There's nothing new in the story itself - Shankar's films (not his romantic films) always tend to stick to the same story - that of a vigilante trying to single-handedly change society; one man against everybody else. It is old wine in a new bottle, but the way the film has been made makes it worth watching atleast once...for Vikram, if for nothing else.

if we go by your method of finding inspirations and copies. almost every story written after the first 3000 years of human kind will appear inspired or copies.

Original stories in kollywood is very rare. Thats why most of the movies goes without me even having to hear about them. For those who look for originality, they should definitely keep themselves miles away from Tamil movies.

The problem is that there are soooo many movies out there that its really hard to come up with a new story. In fact, even if someone think they've come up with an original idea, they can be penalised of having inspired by someone elses work. But I agree. Shanker has indeed been inspired by those movies named. Nevertheless, this movie is by far better than most of the Tamil movies I've seen and I will continue to watch these type of movies even if they're remakes of a hollywood hit.

See the diffent between getting inspiration and a RIP OFF. This movie is not a RIP OFF. Some scenes are inspirerad from movies like Fight Club or Me Myself & Irene. Just because they you used the suffering from anterograde amnesia or short term memory loss don't mean that the hole story is copied. Fight Club, Me, Myself & Irene, Memento, Gollum in The Lord Of the Rings. All this movies are using the sickness but have shown it in a diffrent way and the story is not the same either. Anniyan is one of the greatest movies I have seen and the story have nothing to with the movies above. Director S.Shankar have shown a diffrent type of movie about corruption in India. Great story, screen play and dialogues. Vikram's acting was really good. Saadha did her part good and Prakash Raj was excellent. The background scrore was amazing by Harris Jeyaraj.

I don't know who brought up Me myself and Irene, fight club and matrix...anniyan has very little to do with in terms of story (you need to realize that many movies even in Hollywood have similar fight scenes like MATRIX and fight club..you don't call them as inspirations )

but i am not defending anniyan to be original ....it has rather strong inspirations from se7en though ....
