Can someone tell me what mr. Shankar was thinking while making this movie.
The movie is ok if it was made under 5 crores.
@ 30 Crores - It is a big let down.

I dont see it worth discussing..

3 hrs and the film goes nowhere ! all scenes are predictable ! nothing exciting abt the way Shankar has handled the film !!! 100% Disaster

i think that so far only shankar's movies are worth watching in the tamil film industry . Nowadays tamil movies suck big time. his movies are always different and are a hit. In singapore, anniyan is a number one hit.

Since you generalized all Tamil movies to prove the point Anniyan is good, I will also take the privilege of one GENERALIZATION. That is, “Who gives a RATS AZZ on what is hit in Singapore?”

About recent TAMIL movies,
Virumandi (2004) – Best Asian Film at Seoul International Film Festival, selected by European Federation Of Fantastic Films, a jury comprised only European members and the award is given to an Asian film.
Autograph (2004) – Received special mention at Montreal World Film Festival.

Back to our topic, there are tons of split personality movies made worldwide. My favorites are Psycho, Fight Club and Primal Fear (in this Edward Norton fakes it) in that order. In my opinion, Anniyan sucks big time in story & screenplay.

wat do u think of urself.ill complain 2 anniyan and hed come and kill u.
This is one of the best movies ever made in the tamil film industry.
It has awesome graphics,awesome storyline and awesome acting.
So the next time u r complaining of anniyan,

The scenes in which he changes personalities were heavily inspired by Gollum's scenes in LOTR 2: The Two Towers

As far as derivation from books go, this movie was almost certainly derived largely from Sidney Sheldon's Tell me your dreams...

I agree with Veena 28, tamil movies really sucks, It's nothing but crap. Shankar is the only director who take the challenges and make different movies and I think he always succeeds in doing so.

Without Shankar's movies, tamil cinema would be such an embarrasment

Anniyan was a good movie and Vikram certainly is the best actor we've had in Tamil cinema for the past 10 years. Just love his acting and the way he portaits his characters, h's also good at doing different accents

I agree with Sintya, besides Mani Ratnam (Aaiyutha Ezhuthu, Dil Se, Roja etc.) Shankar is prob da best tamil director all his movies are good. Jeans, Boys, Indian etc.

lol...I guess we have to get used to a lot of these kinda comments from everyday on the street for a while...the SMS jokes have been all over the place as well, including a wonderful one featuring a conversation between Anniyan and Ajith. But the movie is basically Shankar's basic one-man-against-everyone-else story, with a new flavour. It is always the same - That basic storyline runs through Gentleman, Indian and Mudhalvan as well...

ANNIYAN IS SUPERB!

And I disagree with ppl above who said tamil cinema is total crap.

They make a few amount of good movies every year.

And what about directors like Manirathnam? He is greater than Shankar.

You know theyre not all bad...Some are VERY entertaining like Saamy, Gilly, and more recently Arindhum Ariyamelum...That was great and Prakash Raj really kicked ass in that.

More to the point, the last scene where we found ouit that VIkram has not totally been cured of his mutliple personality is the same kind of twist from Primal Fear...Which is also a great film. CHECK IT OUT!

I thought Anniyan was ok, nothing great but it leaves you wanting for a few rea; "Anniyans" in India...Just the way Saamy left you wanting for more "Saamy" like police in India.

The songs are all great (Especially Kumari and Randakka) but yes, the budget is wasted on this film. I think you could have done a lot more with that money.

Satha looks great, Vikram looks good (but not as Remo...that pees me off) and Vivek is good at what he does and thats make you laugh. Hoping to see more of Satha, she looks very hot in Randakka :D

Let's put it this way .. Anniyan is three hours nonstop entertainment,however without a very admirable screenplay.
By the way - Anniyan is the biggest hit in recent times in the south so let's not put it down as utter rubbish.After all if so many people like the movie,why bother to degrade it???

Hullo!!! Pink, old chum, you seem to have got the Primal Fear plot all mixed up. The last scene in Anniyan does indeed reveal that he is not cured. But how can you compare it with Primal Fear, where Norton just reveals that he NEVER HAD MPD to begin with?

Anniyan is a good entertainer which seems to have heavily borrowed from several Hollywood blockbusters. On a personal note, it is the first Tamil DVD I have actually bought...

I definitely remember seeing influences from Sheldon's "Tell me your dreams", "Me, myself and Irene", and "Fight Club". Of course you can see the Matrix style fight sequences, but you see that everywhere nowadays... It's being done to death. But I can also see slight influences from the Kill Bill movies.

Its been a long time since I've seen Se7en, and I can't really remember it enough to see any resemblences. But many of my friends say it is there, so I accede that it might be. But I'll have to nod a firm "No way" to any connection to Primal Fear other than both stories are based on MPD. However, Primal Fear is indeed a wonderful movie, and I'd recommend all to give it a try...

havent seen that movie or the Edward Norton primal fear. DVD library doesnt have it so let us see. All in all...it is heavily inspired

Anniyan.................Great movie from Shankar.......

If we break any movie into each of its parts(scene) we can always find
1000 movies which are similar in nature......

You cannot call it as a copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.Fight club (split personality, to an extent the schizophrenia part)
3.Matrix (stunts)
4.Kill Bill (that place where he fights the judo ppl closely resembled matrix and killbill, the camera work was especially from kill bill)
5.Passion of christ(the place where prakashraj tortures ambi during interrogation)

I liked Anniyan . It was awesome, and yeah, ok, maybe a few scenes were inspired by some English movies, but it made a HUGE hit in Bolloywood Box office. Damn the complainers that make the conversation go in circles. :-) Plus Vikram was freakin' good in that movie !!

Anniyan, or Shankar Had used Technique and style of Matrix. How can you consider it a Copy mere because here is Hitting 100 Goons as in Matrix? or Kill Bill?
The same scene was there upteen Chinese and Hongkong Movies!

Torturing Scene - Almost same scene was used in Kadhalan (Shankar Direction), Do you think Passion of Christ is Copied from Kadhalan?. Torturing scene cannot be considered as a Copy, You can see the same scene in Cells - Police Station.

Anniyan is highly influenced from "Tell Me Your Dreams".

and If you carefully watched Missiah - The Happenings, you can see the Influence of ANNIYAN.?

well cannot say about tamil movies as i have not watched any of them.anniyan dubbed as apirichit the starnger in hindi is quiet cool as an entertainer.when u watch these kind of movies see it an a complete entertainer rather than a "gr8 wirk of art"..i think apirichit-the starnger rocks big time.this movie should be watched by these big time bollywood filmmakers...who make crap like dhoom2,krish and kabhi alvida na kehna.........the bottom line is anniyan rocks and if people don't like these movies...they probably don't deserve to watch a movie...but jatra..(street theatre in bengal)
