It is with great sadness that I inform the IMDB community of the death of Tara Correa-McMullen, who played the part of Big Mac in "Rebound". She was killed this past weekend in the Los Angeles area as the result of multiple gunshot wounds. Her death definitely appears to be gang-related.
Tragically, Tara’s life seemed to mirror that of the street-tough character, Graciela Reyes, which she played last season on “Judging Amy.” This is really such a shame because she was a young lady who had the capacity to be very sweet, caring, and likable. Her death is a tragic reminder to all of us of the utter senselessness of gang violence. It also shows the importance of doing everything we can to raise our kids properly, teach them good values, and to keep them away from the terrible influence of gangs. What a shame...
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Teen actress Tara Correa-McMullen, who portrayed a former gang member in the TV show "Judging Amy," was shot to death amid gang violence, police said.
Authorities in Inglewood, a suburb south of Los Angeles, said the actress was shot several times as she stood outside an apartment complex Oct. 21. Two men with her were wounded.
Correa-McMullen's parents, Devora Correa and Thomas McMullen, wrote in the eulogy that was read at the 16-year-old's funeral on Friday that their daughter made friends with everyone, "whether they were a grip or a caterer."
No suspects have been identified in the shooting, which is believed to be gang-related, police said.
"She may have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Sgt. Steve Overly said.
After filming her first movie, "Rebound," which was released this summer, Correa-McMullen won a recurring role on "Judging Amy" as a former gang member named Graciela.
Yeah that is so sad, I just found out today online in the news section of AOL. She was just getting started in her life, and it was cut down short with a crazy kind of irony. She played a girl that was in a gang in "Judging Amy" and gets gunned down because of gang violence. They say the good die young, and she was a very good young actress. She might have grown up to be familar face in the entertainment industry, but will never know now because she's gone. May she rest in peace and join God up in heaven. I pray for her family and friends that they'll be alright in their time of grief an loss.
I worked on "Judging Amy" and her attitude was just like her character on the show. The producers filmed her last appearance during the beginning of the season so they didn't have to bring her back. She caused a lot of problems with the crew. It's sad what happened, but when you choose a certain lifestyle, it may come back to you in bad ways.
how many of you who have just posted here actually KNEW her? it's nice that you sympathise and stuff but when I read things like 'she was so cute', 'so sweet' and then I read 'IN THIS OR THAT FILM' I simply cannot help but wonder... WTH? i mean isn't it time in your life that you stopped confusing characters with actors?
not to say she deserved to die or anything because I didn't know her either ;) but... COME ON!
so who knew her? and if somebody didn't maybe they shouldn't write silly things like the ones above? just a thought... feel free to shoot me multiple times if you disagree.
ps. 'Let's stop gang violence once and for all'???? what are you going to do to stop gang violence mate? 'hands over america'? again?... dude... come on....
My son was in "Rebound," so we knew Tara from that experience. From an acting perspective, she wasn't asked to do too much but she played her part well. From a personal perspective, even though my kid didn't have any trouble with her and got along fine with her, you could tell she had a real "chip on her shoulder" and was influenced by the wrong kind of crowd. She said many times that her main goal in life was to become a gang member. What a shame! This girl basically lucked into this role, and then was given the role on "Judging Amy" to boot, and had a great opportunity to get out of a bad environment and make something of herself. She received some great breaks that people who have worked in the business for years never got. But she gave it all away!
This girl wasn't bad through and through. She was very kind and sweet to my daughter, who just adored Tara. When she was with my daughter, Tara showed a kind and gentle side. So she had the capacity to be a loving person, but unfortunately she chose to pursue gang-banging. They had a hard time getting her to come in to work when they did some re-shoots a few months before the movie came out, and it was obvious she had fallen back in with a bad crowd at that point. So I'm afraid that Tara's legacy will be that she's the ultimate example of someone who could've made something of herself, but instead pissed it all away by making bad and ultimately tragic decisions.
That's so unbelievable :( I hope there is SOMETHING after death, and she might be still with us, watching. I hope her soul is not in pain... I don't pray, but I'll remember her...
Ramon Navarro, Sal Mineo, Rebecca Shaeffer, Haing Ngor . . . and now Tara Correa-McMullen. The list goes on and on.
What do all these people have in common? They were all famous actors killed before their time by worthless L.A. scumbags. Cheap hoods and drugged out crackheads whose lives are meaningless and whose presence in this city of dreams is unwelcome.
The victims are now all immortalized. They have inspired people, they may have changed people's lives. And the people who killed them are now forgotten, in fact, some are unidentified.
My personal feeling is that anyone who is convicted of killing a celebrity should be castrated, skinned alive and dragged through the streets of Hollywood. But I don't make the laws. I don't know what it is about this town that shows so little respect for actors, but I hope this incident tells the world that these lowlives do NOT belong here. And they need to get out.
You're absolutely right. I just wanted to make a point about artists who were cut down before their time. But there are many victims who are not famous.
My business partner died just recently, and he had one film credit with myself. He never had a chance to pursue his own film, a truer adaptation of Josephine Baker's life.
He wasn't murdered exactly, but there was someone who was a drug addict, a man who raped and pillaged our business account, which led to the stress in his life. He died in a hospital after a month long stay. So he didn't go quickly. The man who robbed us made sure he suffered before he died.
So I have little sympathy for the druggies, the gang-bangers and the aforementioned lowlifes.
I do believe when a famous person is killed, it brings it to the attention to the world, and it's the best opportunity to start listening and working toward changing this situation.

C'mon now. You had me until the part of "killing a celebrity" Who really cares? If someone kills ANYONE unless outta self-defense they should be punished. Noty just because its a celebrity. PITY EVERYONE WHO DIES UNJUSTLY, NOT JUST CELEBS.
I don't want to sound mean or heartless (and I really liked her in this movie), but according to other articles I've read about her death, she... uh... pretty much deserved it. She threw away her acting career to be more involved in her gang, and only wanted to be known as "Lady Kick". People tried to help her, but she chose to ignore them. It's always sad when someone is killed. But play with fire and you might just get burned...
i feel terrible. NO HOMO but I actually spanked the monkey (LOL) looking at her but I had no idea she was dead. crap. she was so fine. I would've loved to take a shower with her. (don't worry, I'm only 15)
