The girl let it down

Ok she was pretty, but in a skanky way. Then she spoke, f*ck me that accent.

And she's the type of girl that lets a greasy weasel like Sidney put his hands and who knows what else on and in her in return for coke, yuck.

Why would a man of seemingly good taste take such a keen interest in a dime a dozen slapper like her?

xXx is a flawed man. As much as he preached about having a plan and sticking to it, he forgot that forging strong relationships as being a big part of securing your future. Going at it alone can only take you so far, and as we see he's very much a loner with no time for a real woman because he's a criminal and can't establish any normalcy, so he settles for a Cockney coke whore.

reply

Yeah I dunno. It felt a bit like they were shoehorning a (then) popular actress into the film and it all seemed a bit wrong and out of character for him.

I get that she was motivation for the ending, but I'd prefer it if X had just boned her that night they met out of horniness and poor judgement, and he hadn't pursued her and gotten together with her. It didn't fit.

I can see your point about keeping her as a minor plot point instead of him keeping her as a main squeeze, but I think it was important to Vaughn to add impact to the scene as we see Sidney shoot xXx in front of Tammy. It's also a bit ironic that it would be an insecure pipsqueak like Sid to take him out with all that he's been through with the Serbs and the Duke

reply

yeah, good irony. lotta people at the time complained the ending was ripped from carlito's way.

but...that was a tack-on. the original ending (the one sony wanted) was xxxx and tami driving off in the convertible.

as for the other point, about the girl in general, that also was forced onto vaughn by sony. for whatever reason.

i personally don't find any problem with her at all. i thought it was a nice bit of natural motivation for the character. guys at that age are constantly chasing kitty. maybe not the dudes of this generation so much lol, but for xxxx it would've been a very typical thing.

well said, BK

also, from the book it's shown that xxxx was also a poor dirty face street urchin, so it quite fits he'd identify with cockney tami as a fun available piece of ass. maybe the dark suits he wore distracted the OP from realizing this. but actually how could one know that, unless they read the book.

but your point about keeping cursory attachments is a good one. i agree.

and a lot of this is explained in the opening chapters of VLM, of which i am a huge fan in spite of all the hate for it lol

cheers

A very solid movie I always enjoyed & I think it's Daniel Craig's best (Sorry. Never cared for him as Bond) but this is an issue that has always bothered me about this movie as well. X is thoroughly established as being very careful, meticulous & business oriented so it made little sense to me that he would allow himself to become immediately enamored & distracted by a random pretty face who immediately establishes herself as a shallow, status chasing floozy who wants to cheat on her low rent simp boyfriend who is connected to someone X had recently done business with. It's especially ridiculous considering all of the deadly turmoil that was unfolding around his criminal business at the time yet he still prioritizes calling this woman and scheduling a leisurely afternoon date. All other indications about X suggests that he would be above involving himself in such a frivolous & messy situation that ultimately comes back to bite him.

you make a good point. but i think that is the implied irony anyway, that an exceedingly careful guy like XXXX can still 'think with the wrong head' lol. if you look back at the greek plays, this same pattern repeats often.

but yes, i agree that on the surface it does smack of incongruence. but as i stated above ^^ he is a street kid originally (in the book; you don't catch this vibe from the film, because craig is so damn smooth) and i surmise that tammy is actually more fitting to his 'taste' in women. she's from his 'native' tribe lol. My guess is he probably feels more at home around a cockney babe.

just a bitta .02 :)

Let's hope you fall in love someday so you can relate a little more with the situation in the movie.
