Sad to say, but this movie really isn't good at all. The production values were bad: dark scenes, fuzzy focus, the whole movie seemed to have been filmed through a brownish gauze. New York has never looked so bad on film.
I do agree with you that the directing and cinematography is certainly not thie best! There's one scene where it really stood out for me--right after Gray was offered a promotion, and she's in the room with Rachel Shelley and the dude who plays her boss. One second, the room was light, the very next shot, it was dark! I mean, it was probably just cloud cover that happened between takes, but it was VERY noticable.
No plot point/development is in any way believable. If you're determined to see it in a theater, on dvd or cable at some point, I would recommend that you LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS. Then you may like it a little. On a single positive note, I must admit a good cast was assembled and based on the finished product I'm not sure why so many talented people agreed to appear.
