Gray Matters bombing @ the box office

Wow, the movie is doing HORRIBLY at the box office, which really sucks! It hasn't even broken $100,000--not even close!

On the bright side, I think that it will do AWESOME when it's released on DVD, but still...

Its release pattern and limited screens would never have resulted in good box office; but, the movie is NOT GOOD so I'm sure the word of mouth is bad from those who did pay. Too bad; I really wanted it to be good. The cast helps.

reply

Aw, it wasn't THAT bad, man.

I beg to differ. It was so *thin* and I think Heather Graham's not bad normally, but she had nothing to work with in this film! And that 'coming out' bit was lifted directly from the famous 'coming out' bit in 'ellen' all those years ago. PLEASE! How hard is it to think up something original for god's sake? I saw it at prime time evening on the second week of its run in NYC and I was at the theater with my girlfriend and 6 other people. The Voice panned it, and they were right to do so.

I agree (which you can read in my reivew on this site) that the movie had serious flaws. I'm not saying it was a groundbreaking film about coming out, I'm just saying that it wasn't the worst film I've ever seen.

I'm not sure how many screens it opened to nationwide, but I can tell you in Manhattan ... not exactly a city shy about embracing the gay community ... it opened on two, count 'em, TWO screens. It's amazing it made any money.

Lucky for me, I made a concerted effort to figure out where it was playing and I went. And I'm glad I did. I hope those folks who missed it take a chance to rent (or buy) the DVD. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a feel good flick and it's very cute. I walked out with a lift in my step.

Hey cb, I think the most screens it had was only 19. It just didn't take off enough to give it a wider release, like other indie films.

reply

Of course it's terrible !

reply

maybe if they put a serial killer and some women tortured and killed in it, the movie could have been a hit, isn't it?
cause it seems these are the only movies the audience likes in this years.
