Checking the rating they say its rated R because of language, some violence and a disturbing image.
whoever is in the mpaa need to better descriptions.

From watchin the trailer, I'm guessing the disturbing part may be the guy falling from the hot air balloon.
I'm not a fan of MPAA, but I dont mind their descriptions...

without going into too much detail, the guy falling from the hot air balloon is a very disturbing indeed. I think the R rating is probably deserved but certainly shouldn't keep people away from this really awesome film.
shareI completely agree. The "disturbing image" is pretty gross, but it's only a brief moment. The film is amazing. What a rollercoaster. I'm not sure if I liked the ending or not, though. I need to see it again.

The image that gets the R rating in the movie isn't when the guy falls from the hot-air balloon, it's when Jed and Joe both go to find the body and Jed prays next to it. Basically, the body is impailed in the ground, with the guy's stomach pouring out, and one leg off to the side. It deserves the R.

shareActually if youv read the book there is another disturbing scene where Joe goes to see the dead body. That is quite horrible in the book...but Im quite squeamish bout those kinda things anyway.I don't know if that is in the film tho.
