I would've expected Joe to go to the police as soon as he realised that he was being stalked by Jed and go to court to seek a restraining order if Jed persisted because it wouldn't have taken the authorities too long to establish that Jed was "unhinged".

shareif you watch the deleted scenes you'll see that they actually did have a scene of him going to the police station to report it but the story turned pretty stupid cos the police officer didnt seem to care that much and even accused him of being homosexual so yeah, no wonder they cut that part out, would have had many viewers going WTFFF???!

If this took place in the U.S. He would need to apply for a protection order. But because homophobia is so firmly entrenched in society I think he would have been ridiculed for attempting to do so.
