how on earth did they make the guys fall look so realistic

The guy falling from the Balloon has to be one of the best stunt falls I've ever seen. Flawless use of blue screen (or is it green screen these days)
This was a way above average British drama Excellent performances all round the ending is a little flat but im glad they didnt do a twist within a twist which would have been the Hollywood ending.
all in all a professional adult drama
highly recommended

I, too, was extremely impressed with the fall from the balloon. I kept on rewinding my DVD and watching it in slow-mow. You're right: flawless use of greenscreen...or did they really drop some poor actor from a baloon......;)

It's sooooo well done!

How did they do it!?!?

if you watch the film with commentary they explain that there was like a desclerator wire in the two sheep in the right bottom corner of the shot...notice that they don't move...i assume all the wires and stuff were removed using CGI??

If you watch the extra stuff on the DVD you will see the stunt done briefly. It looks amazing and the stunt guy must have had balls of steel because there was not much space between the ground and where the safety rope ends.

YES, that scene blew me the *beep* away! One of the best, if not THE best, shots I've seen. It woke me up and got me interested... I was just about to switch it off too.

Absolutely .... after I'd watched the whole movie, I just had to watch the first five minutes again ... the entire balloon scene was quite haunting, and disturbing. It resonates for the rest of the movie. You can really understand how Joe reacts the way he does every time he sees a red ball or something floating in the air.

The whole beginning was great. When they find the poor guy in the field, that was gruesome but cleverly done.

I rewatched it afterwards as well. Haunting and disturbing indeed.

Ooh, the two sheep surely don't move! lol (I just checked!)

Thank you. I've just finished watching DVD and didn't really like it but the scene impressed me.

reply

Agreed - amazing scene. I was also very impressed with the way they portrayed the (I assume) hyper-realistic injuries - poor guy....

reply

Usually I can tell if it's green screen but this was flawless.

reply

There was no blue or green screen used. The stunt was done on location as you see it onscreen. The stunt performer was on a descender rig (a wire attached to a cone with metal wings to) to control his fall. Preventing him from hitting the ground. In post the wire was removed using CGI. The only CGI enhancement.

i dunno either but it was fricking amazing however they did it!

my only assumption is the guy falling was a stunt man who really did fall from a great height but landed on a... one of them big cushiony things that people use, sometimes during fires, to break your fall... anyone know what they're called?

Ashmi any question

An "airbag" - but no, that's not how it was done. Read my post. It explains how they pulled it off.
