Those who didn't read the book probably hated it as they lack attention spans and those who did read the book can't seem to separate the two. They were expecting a by-the-numbers adaptation.

PUT THE *beep* LOTION IN THE BASKET!

Probably because of the homosexual overtones. It's one thing to have homosexual overtones in a movie about 2 women (i.e. Single White Female), but I think the idea of 2 men makes a lot of people uncomfortable. I really can't think of any other reason. The acting was extraordinary, the story was gripping and the writing was intelligent and thought-provoking. I thought it was a great movie about obsession and mental illness, but I realize that the topic itself makes people uncomfortable - even more so, if it's between two men. I have to admit that there were times when I was uncomfortable, but I enjoy movies that push me out of my comfort zone. I don't believe we're always meant to feel warm and fuzzy when watching a movie. I prefer a movie that makes me think and that haunts me. This movie will certainly do so.

I thought it was pretty exciting. I never read the book, so I was left wondering if Jed was even real or simply a product of Joe's guilty conscience, driving him mad.
