I don't get the Hate for it, decent movie.

I really don't understand all the hate for this movie. I mean, it's not the best movie around, but overall it is very good, probably an 8.5 IMO. I think compared to more recent Best Picture winners even going back eight years or so, this movie is better than the majority of them. If anything, channel your hatred at this movie winning best picture towards "Shakespeare in Love." Beating "Saving Private Ryan," is one of the worst faux pas in Oscar history. Saving Private Ryan is probably the best war movie of all time. Of course opinions on movies are a dime a dozen, but at least this movie had some very intriguing uses of irony, and also some very strong acting performances... forgetting a couple *cough* Brendan Fraser. Michael Pena was exceptional.

Please don't make insult at me 😉

I think it's a solid film and better than Brokeback Mountain, however, once the "Homophobia" accusations started, the Academy felt the heat and changed their mind. I can't say this was Best Picture, it wasn't but that's taste...

As far as my beef with the Academy, I look at Scorsese with Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, the latter losing to fking Dances With Wolves!!! Or how about Apocalypse Now being the year of Kramer Vs Kramer lol. Solid film but Apocalypse Now is a Masterpiece.

Year after year, this will always be an issue. Spotlight was a joke. Great subject matter but a boring film. However, there were a ton of "Worthy" films in 2015 regardless. Similar to 2007, it was a year full of Memorable Cinema.

Edit: Yes, I know this Won. I'm talking about all the "Re-Votes" afterwards.

While far from Best Picture Oscar-worthy (I'd have given it to Capote or Brokeback Mountain), I really enjoyed it. I thought it was well-acted, well-shot, the music was gorgeous and I liked what the movie was trying to say, even if it came across as more than a little preachy.

I think a lot of the hate came from the fact that the movie kind of makes you look in the mirror and take a long hard look at who you are and what you believe in. The movie basically mirrors how people are in real life and that is a very hard thing for some people to deal with. People like to think they are "above" the issues and bias this film explores, but they aren't. It doesn't matter how educated or rich. It doesn't matter what race or culture you come from. This movie basically says what is true in life and that is something most people would rather not acknowledge.

Yes. And I will expand a bit. What the stories and characters depict is each of us has a "public" face and persona which is often quite different from what comes out under stress, where our deep prejudices fully show. If we examine ourselves most of us will recognize that we have an ugly side that usually is not shown.

Too many view the themes superficially and think it is just about racial prejudice.
