the performances?

i thought whiles the performances were good by both amitabh and rani they were still a bit overrated, when u compare them to performances in films like my left foot, rain man, and awakenings they are not that great

Please say that a million times. Or for all the ignorant bollywood worshippers, make that a billion.

I totally agree. I think Rani provided a caricature more than a character; Amitabh was slightly better. How anyone could think that Rani's work was better than Vidya Balan's in Parineeta or Urmila's in Ek Hasina Thi is beyond me. Every frame of "Black" is pleading and begging with its audience to see how "tragic" it can be. Sorry, the sweltering violins don't cut it. Bhansali is a hack, pure and simple. Watch 'Devdas' for further proof. What a mess.

The performances in "Maachis", "Maqbool", "Omkara", "Dil Se", "Water", "Khamoshi" are far, far superior to the mediocrity which the Indian media purports as 'landmark'. What's the old saying? Mediocrity is excellent only to the mediocre.

i thought the actress who should have won best actress for 2005 is urmila matondkar for maine gnadhi ko nahi maara because that was a natural performance and it was amazingly portrayed. why people say she was restrained i have no idea! best actor should have gone to sanjay suri for his performance in my brother nikhil for that is probably one of the most challenging roles an actor has ever played! best supporting should have gone to juhi chawla for the same film! i wonder why it was given to ayesha kapoor. i'm not saying black was a bad movie. it was brilliant. i just hope it wouldn't have been a copy of miracle worker. both amitabh and ayesha kapoor have overdone at some parts. i thought rani was fantastic (though her performance in veer zaara was more natural) but i don't think the film really should have gotten all those awards particularly for performances.
